GTA Wildcard Event @ O2 Arena

Headed down to the O2 today to try my hand at the wildcard event, today was the second day of the event and a top bunch of times was clearly emerging.

The top 4 or so are running in the 1.34's (Nurb GP short) and I watched one of the consistent 1.34xx drivers on his lap. Forgot his name now but he was really smooth and was good to try and learn from. Another driver in the 34's was the total opposite though, fighting the car at all times but in the process being extremely quick.

As for me, I managed a pitiful 8th on the leaderboard, with a low 1.37. I tried one more time but felt I couldn't improve within the time of the 12-4pm session. I could of maybe squeezed a mid 36/high 35 with some real risk taking and time to improve but alas I wasn't on that level of pace. (I've been without a PS3 for 3 months, GT5 hadn't been played for around a prior 5 months before that 👎 )

Props to the guys running the top times though, you really are amazing drivers and it was good to watch some of you guys on the rigs today! I think tomorrow might see someone push into the 1.33's! Good luck to anyone going down there, the Nissan booth thing is quite a quirky thing to visit anyway :dopey:

^^ Nice report. I'm a bit jealous though. I can see the O2 from my place but, I had to work this weekend :(. Wish I could have made it.

Saying that, even if I did get into the GTA physical tests, i'd probably die .

Good effort mate, glad to hear you enjoyed it 👍.

Anything new that you noticed (cars, tracks etc)?

Thanks for the report, Deol. They're running the Wildcard Event on GT5? The Nurburgring GP course hasn't been shown in any GT6 demos yet.

Thanks Nurb and Jordan! :)

It was GT5 being run for this event. All other tracks except Nurb GP short and Full seemed to be unavailable and the only car was the 370Z Tuned (they had a lovely brand new 370Z Nismo next to the rigs 👍 )

I also noticed that the tyre selection wasn't forced and steering sensitivity was told to be left at 5. All other aids seemed to be free choice. I watched the top (or 2nd) guy run before me and just made sure he was using RH tyres as well (which he was! :sly:). In all seriousness - it wouldn't be hard to distract the rig attendants and make a quick switch to RS tyres if someone was really that desperate to be top of the charts. This was the only gripe I had with the whole thing.

Would have been great to see the Nurb GP on GT6 but alas it wasn't to be. :dunce:

The tyre selection was restricted to Racing hard when I visited today. They now also exit out of the time-trial, then re-enter so you cannot follow the ghost car of the faster drivers. :)

Hopefully that means they changed something then! Good to hear 👍

Did you post a good time? :)

Yeah, they're doing a good job of keeping it fair.

When I finished, I was sitting 6th on the leader boards, with a 1:35.300-ish. I don't expect to be in the top 10 by tomorrow. You'll have to get into the 1:33's to stand a chance.

I have a temptation to go back for later today :scared:

Keep an eye out for Jann today, he'll be there.

Good luck guys.

Surely a little lunch break wander to the arena wouldn't do any harm? :nervous:

Not a chance much to my disgust :ill:.
I live near Greenwich, unfortunately I don't work near Greenwich.

Next year, hopefully.

Good luck fellow Londoners 👍. Try to glean as much info as you can on GT6 :sly:.

He was straight into the 1:33's in his first attempt. Two seconds faster than me, and I've been trying all day!

Amazing how he can just jump from racing real cars onto the game and still be right up there as the quickest. Big respect for him.

I'm at the O2 right now. I've had two goes, and so far I've managed a 1:34.118 for third place :D

Hopefully my time will be good enough, if not I know that I can get into the 1:33s as I pushed too hard and had to back off in the "halfway hairpin" on my quick lap.

And yeah, I'm posting from my phone.

The car used was the tuned 370Z with racing hard tyres. Ghost was optional, grip reduction set to real, no in-car adjustments allowed.

The top 4 go through to national finals, all of the top 4 were there when it ended at 7:30, and... I was one of them! I'm through to national finals! :D

My best time was 1:34.113 for third place after three attempts. The fastest time of all was a 1:33.409, that's just sick.

Epic driving Matthew! I was about 0.6 secs off you, but only managed 11th. Wish I had some of your skills. 👍

Thanks everyone. Now I've arrived back, I can upload a photo showing the final results of the wildcard event:

Now you know my full name :embarrassed:
