Hi everyone,

There has been some discussion to blow of some steam, have fun, what have you in a 24hours of Lemons race at Thunderhill 6-7 Aug 2011

We want to run two cars, a GT Academy car and GT Planet car during this event.

We maybe building our own car but are looking at option to run with a established team (SickSideways)

There is an exploritory effort to see if we can get the 8-12 drivers needed to do this event at a cost effect price.

for more info:
call or email the team at info@sicksideways.com 352-875-6856 and just let them know you are interested and we will try to build a list of drivers big enough to merit entering this event.
Entry Deadline is: 28 May 2011

We also are considering building our own car, more discussion on this is taking place in the Club Forums in the John Deere Club

Just wanted to get the info out there for anyone interested.
Should be a whole lot of fun!

I'd like to participate, but I have no idea if I'm going to be available in August. If I don't make it through GT Academy, I start training for my CDL when I get back from Florida and will probably be on the road a lot after that.

I run a Lemons team here in the Northeast (team Farfrumwinnin), we will be at NJMP, Loudon, Summit, and Stafford springs this year.

If you guys have any questions on cost or whatnot please let me know I'm more than happy to help!

man, i wish i could do this... having run my real car @ t-hill, all i can say is.... good luck, have fun, and don't die of heat exhaustion.

i may come out to watch since i'm only a short drive from there.

Its le mans not lemons lol

I love how we have had multiple people correct us in different threads. I wonder what they initially think when they see us talk about it, they are like "pffft these amateurs, they have no idea about real motorsports, they don't even know the name."

I just love when it's people who haven't posted in this subforum before :D It's like they go around looking for people to correct so they can feel good about themselves. tsk tsk so sad :indiff:

Tommy and G.McGee, what does it take to be one of the drivers for this event? Thanks!

A team (min of 4 drivers) and car setup to the rules. You also need all safety equipment (helmet, suit, gloves, shoes etc which they sell a cheap but good enough set on the site www.24hoursoflemons.com for like $500). And a lemons license (no qualifications, $50)

Are you the same FixByWire who kicked ass in Academy? If so PM me, I may have a spot open on my team for our race in Loudon, NH May 7-8 if you're interested.

At first, I didn't know anything about the Lemons race...I thought someone wanted to try to run in the actual LeMans 24hour! lol. I even went so far as asking if it was a typo, or just a pun about running a lemon in LeMans. Haha, I felt like a dumbass once I realized what it was all about. At least I didn't try to correct you :P

This happens on every automotive related forum I've ever been on at least once if not more when lemons is mentioned. Its always good for a laugh.

More fun though is people I work with know about how I do it and one guy legitimately thought I was running the 24 hours of Lemans, looked it up on the Speed TV Schedule and was asking me about my travel plans and where he can see me on TV!

Hey, the NJMP Race is on April 9th and 10th, but my team is full up for that race. You're welcome to come hang out, anyone who can turn a wrench is always appreciated either by us or the teams we hang with we always help eachother out.

www.24hoursoflemons.com has a forum with a "help wanted" section, you may be able to find a ride there, but it may be too close to the race. Worth a shot though.

Hey Andre,
Tommy has some good info here
Also i believe there is a race entry fee (some where north of 100 dollars) as well for each driver on top of the lemons license.

The Sicksideways team has both racing suits, racing helmets (and some gloves available)( you'll have to bring your own shoes)so no worries there
Some skippy guys run the thing. BTW, you may be interested to know, One of them is a fellow Brazilian driver whom was Montoya's. Protégés in Formula3.

Just givem a call if you have a question.

The team entry is $500 plus $100 per driver, so I split the cost amongst my guys, as well as $50 for a transponder if you don't have your own.

Here was a decent writeup on their last lemons event

They do east coast races as well, which would probably be easier for me and you, but Thunderhill looks pretty sweet and the rest of the guys seem pretty set on it.

Definitely interested in running the Thill event, but I need more info of cost for me, meeting/briefing/car-building schedule for the team, and expectations/obligations needed to be met.

I would also be very interested in the thunderhill event. If we do put together a GT Academy team, I would very much like to be involved.

I might be interested in this, I also have a Lemons car ready to race.

We did the PBIR event (our first) but due to the last minute nature of our entry, didn't have proper tires or a chance to do any testing. We finished 30th out of 80+ despite spending 5hrs in the pits for repairs to the idle air control valve, fuel filter etc etc. Great race, and with proper prep this car could top the podium. 1995 BMW 540i with the 6spd, 290hp 300tq V8 and fun to drive.

All she needs is a lil work on the bushings, MAF sensor, rad hose and other little things. Throw on good tires and we have a beast.

Nice deadpool. You think they would let you run that car again? Also, how are the repairs made, in correlation to the $500 allowable to be spent on the car. (since I would think you have already spent the full $500 allottable b4 the first race)
I have not been in a Lemons race before, so I am not sure how it works.

The car looks sweet though. Nice setup

Thanks, it was a great time even with the problems, the race was the cars first test lol. We finished, and that is more than enough to be proud of. The car was also a blast to drive, and im sure it terrified some as we passed them on the back straight doing 30mph+ more than them. Yeah, they loved that we ran it. We took a perfectly good 540i stick shift (rare) and gutted it for lemons. With repairs, you can get a residual value assigned, but we also have some misc parts left that can be used to bring our value down further. My estimate for repairs are around $200 right now.

Per driver (4 at most)....... with good tires..... figure around 1000 per driver depending on how serious we want to be. IMO 255's would need to be run on the 540, and they would need to be star specs or similar (min 180 tread wear for lemons rules). For two sets of tires, looking at $1k. We have endurance race pads on the car right now, did one 24hr race and they still have 90% life left. Def will need new rotors and backups, but that's maybe $200 total if not less. The big costs are already taken care of car/cage. I still need to source two sets of 17's wide enough for 255's as well, I know a few bmw wheels that will work.

Considering it's a 24hr race for $1k..... it's a bargain.

Sicksideways is a high price because they are running it as a business, and you have to pay to play. They setup the car and have a team behind you, the results speak for themselves.
