9th Century-present Cigarettes nominated by @Danoff

Information:
A cigarette, or cigaret, is a small cylinder of finely cut tobacco leaves rolled in thin paper for smoking. The cigarette is ignited at one end causing the cigarette to smoulder and allowing smoke to be inhaled from the other end, which is held in or to the mouth; in some cases, a cigarette holder may be used, as well. Most modern manufactured cigarettes are filtered, and also include reconstituted tobacco and other additives.

Over 1 million people globally die each year due to smoking-related illnesses. SU.

Literal cancer sticks.

Plus the "filters" don't work at all.

I never had one and I never will.

Super Uncool. Send it to Hell.

Hated the things since I was little. I wouldn't even eat if there was an ash tray on the table.

Seriously Uncool, unless youre an old school country singer, than they're sub-zero.

I think they look cool. I also like the smell. Those things don't begin to counter the downside. SU.

They are the coolest bad habit someone can have.

I enjoy a cigarette every now and then. I'm aware of the negative health effects, but to me they're soothing and a good partner to take a break with anyway. I probably smoke about two a week though, I'm not about that half-a-pack-a-day life.

Cool to me, regardless of the health effects.

Why I accidentally hit SZ instead of SU is beyond me.

Nothing cool at all about these, nor will there ever be. My stepfather used to smoke almost a whole pack a day until he was able to quit. He's been smoke free for 8 years now, and feels great :)

Seriously Uncool.

I seriously don't like smoking and I'll never smoke for the rest of my life due to the negative effects. I even told my Pops to stop smoking when he reaches 50.

I wonder if someone will nominate vape as well. That should be an interesting nomination to discuss.

Oh don't even get me started on cigarettes, they're my biggest pet peeve. To me they just signify that someone is selfish, and lacking willpower. And then it just looks scummy. Seeing these congregations of people outside buildings smoking, it just looks so miserable. And they seem to be unaware that bins exist, they just chuck them on the ground when they're done, or throw them out the car window. Just a way for some greedy businessmen to get paid for giving out legal death sticks.

And then the smokers are always "quitting." Once a fortnight they'll be going on about how they're going to quit, and the moment they see someone else smoking, they'll say "hey, bro. Give us a ciggy." At that point they're just quitting buying cigarettes. And within the week they'll be buying them again. I'm aware that it's addictive, but I'm sure that if they really wanted to quit, that they could.

I've got to go meh. As bad as cigarettes are, they are a huge source of revenue for the government which far offsets the spending on health caused by smoking related problems. If there wasn't any cigarettes, income tax would be higher....

Cancer sticks, and the smell of the smoke gets every where. While there's no smoking in the building where I work, I have coworkers that smell like ashtrays.

Easy SU.

Eh, people who smoke them are free to do so, they are just made because people want them.

The thing that takes it from meh to uncool is that they are one of the 3 big things that are physically addictive, as in you get physical withdrawal symptoms. The other 2 being alcohol and heroin.

My son has enough lung issues as it is. Cigarettes will kill him. Nothing about that is even remotely cool.

I kinda don't like how high schoolers smoke now like the demographic for those who are smoking is getting younger IMO.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

I smoked for 20 years, gave up 10 years ago and I still have occasions when I want one.

Its no way as easy as you suggest.

As a heavy smoker I'm gonna have to say they're uncool.

They cause some serious health issues (but surprising not as many as obesity) and the addiction factor is terrible.

Would be SU if Hollywood actors didn't make them look so cool on screen.

From personal experience you're right, I don't have any idea because I've never smoked, and obviously beating addiction is easier said than done. But if you get the urge and you still don't have a cigarette, I'm not talking about you. Infact, good on you if you successfully deny the urge each time. And I never said it was easy, just that if people really wanted to stop, they could. There are heaps of people who are aware of how unhealthy it is; sort of think they should stop but never dedicate to actually stopping for longer than a week or two.

Is this even a question?, SU. Horrible smell, awful health effects, propagated by Hollywood actors/Big Business, etc-etc.

And like a few posts above me points out, Not Cigars, no class. :P

Cigarettes are definitely very uncool. Rollys are close to being as bad but are slightly cooler.

My entry to the world of smoking was different to most other people's. I used to (mildly autistically) hassle people to move to the next pub all the time because I would get nervous about sitting still. Once it became illegal to smoke in the pub here in 2007 I could just go outside with everyone for a few minutes instead of promoting a pub crawl between every pint.
So for me they're less uncool than they are for other people. Plus I had "relations" in my single days with people that I would never have met had it not been for the smoking ban. I suppose i'll have to click on cool just for that.

I work for a very small company, so I know almost everyone personally. It hurts me that almost half of them smoke; some will smoke over half a pack during their shift. I want them to stop and get help because they're great people that don't deserve to suffer, but they clearly have an addiction and those are so difficult to break. The fact that cigarette companies are still allowed to operate and profit off killing people disgusts me.
