GTP Alternative Cool Wall Polls Proposal - (Stuff That Isn't Cars)

OK, this is just a stupid idea of mine, I'm sure, but hear me out. I've been thinking about the GTP cool wall, and how it only covers cars. So, I think, why not have a cool wall for things that aren't cars. Anything from bass guitars to chainsaws to shotguns to goggles to intergalactic police officers could be covered, although there would obviously have to be exceptions, which should probably be left to the discretion of moderators and/or the curator of the wall. So one wouldn't be able to nominate Barack Obama, because he's a living person; they wouldn't be able to nominate an individual floorboard plank from their house, because it's not notable enough for anyone to care; and they wouldn't be able to nominate the girl I shared a bedroom with at boarding school, because she's a living person who out of everyone on GTPlanet the chances are only I have heard of. Blah blah blah...

Tell me what you think of the idea below. Sorry. I just wrote a ridiculously long sentence, but I've spent ten hours in the car today driving across northern Europe and I'm not being eloquent. Or something.

For those not familiar with the GTP Cool Wall, as vehicle is nominated, and at a later date a thread is created with a poll displaying the options:

  • Sub Zero
  • Cool
  • Meh
  • Uncool
  • Seriously uncool
Ala Top Gear.

Uncool, low calorie per millilitre.

I'm not sure how that contributes to the discussion as to how to implement as series of polls in the style of the GTP Cool Wall found in the cars in general section for non-automotive subjects.

Well, you have the IRL Cool Wall you mentioned, along with the old GT game Cool Wall, and there is the musicians Cool Wall. I'm not sure how a nearly all-encompassing wall would work, but it's worth thinking about.

For when the Coca-Cola and Pepsi threads come up, fights will break out, and GTP will be more divided than the US Senate.

Anyone want to pre-order some popcorn?

It won't work because of ignorance. This is a car forum, so the average user here knows far more about cars, and can better judge them for coolness, than the average anybody. That's why the cool wall for cars works.

I don't know anything about guitars, so if somebody nominates a Gibson guitar, I don't know whether or not it's cool. That can only be accurately decided by guitar experts in guitar forums.

No, because how many people have voted on the cool wall that barely know anything about cars. The Rumble Strip is a different situation, as it is a general BS area, so in here there aren't as many pretenses.

So...don't vote?

I for one would welcome this new cool wall. However anything from the one genre I'd nominate something for would be a guaranteed Seriously Uncool. I guess something would have to fill that area though.

I seem to be the only one opposed to the idea...

Go ahead if you want, I'm sure getting votes won't be a problem.

So, this idea seems fairly well received. Hopefully we can get this on the antiques roadshow.

Yeah, I'll put together an OP for a nomination thread in word, and then once that's all together, I might as well get this party started, if no one minds me curating, at least at first.

OK, I got the nomination thread OP together. I'll post it up soon.

Before it gets locked, I gotta say this is a great idea. I'm gone one weekend and blam. You really spewed your guts in this, Horse.
