Those pop-ups are god awful but it looks rather cool overall so a low cool it is.

Looks like a mini Corvette to me.

Low Cool.

German Elan +2 with added glass and nose vents.

These seem like an often overlooked classic. Not the prettiest, but it pushes aside the Opel stigma with more ease than any other model they've produced.

Cool.

I never thought it'd be possible to make pop up headlights look awful but Opel pulled it off!

But it's still cool though.

A bit dorky looking, but probably the coolest road car Opel has ever made. Low cool.

I've actually seen a black one of these before. It was in someone's driveway, and it looked familiar to me. I thought it was an old Lotus, but then I figured out it was one of these. I think it's a cool car.

Hello?

opel-speedster-ope_spe_01_ro_test_6.jpg

Anyone who drove one, knows they were quite brilliant (for an Opel :P ), also Manta, Calibra weren't "that" bad.

Opel standard, everything half good is between "quotes"

The GT = solid cool

Pretty sure, the car Röhrl drove was an Ascona, not a Manta.

That's quite true 👍 I'm getting mixed up with the Manta 400 - although they were essentially the same under the skin.

The Opel Speedster was a re-skinned mk1 Elise with a heavy GM lump. It's a stretch to praise Opel for its brilliance.

The worst looking pop-up headlights I've ever seen. But still cool.
It is nifty that they operated by basically manhandling them into place from the interior, though. Never have to worry about it winking at people like some sort of Fiero.

My dad loves these things to death. He almost lost his breath when he saw one at the local cars n coffee. Apparently these were the mini corvettes back in his day.

Sub Zero. Light car ( 845kg-940kg) with relatively big engine option (most came with ~1.1l excuse of motor if memory serves, 1.9 was upgrade option), plenty of go fast parts due to sharing drivetrain with Manta and Ascona. Sadly, intact and well preserved ones fetch rather steep 8k USD in California, and more abused ones go for 3-4K USD. I'd still want one, it's a poor mans Corvette without the balding, overweight middle-aged man stigma.
