Additional Information:
After the huge success of Shelby tuned Mustangs in the 60's, Ford's SVT division teamed up with Shelby to create a higher performance version of the 5th Generation Mustang. The final result was the Shelby GT500, which was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in 2005, with the car going on sale in 2007. The GT500 is powered by the same Modular 4.6 V8 as the Mustang GT, with a supercharger to produce 500HP. The car was produced in limited numbers for 3 years (10,000 units per year) at Ford's Flat Rock assembly plant.

At 2007's NAIAS, the GT500KR was revealed, being released in 2008. The engine in the GT500KR is tuned to produce 540HP. 1,000 40th Anniversary editions were built, alongside 571 regular GT500KR's, matching the 1571 production run of the 1968 GT500KR. The GT500KR also took styling cues from the '68 GT500KR. The GT500KR was also featured prominently in the 2008 NBC show, Knight Rider. Owners of GT500's could also send their cars to Carroll Shelby to be upgraded to "Super Snake" models from 2008 for $30,000. He would upgrade the engine and supercharger so the car could produce 605HP (725HP versions were also available).

After the 3 year contract was up, Shelby started work on the 3rd Gen GT500, based on the 6th gen 'Stang, with the 2013 GT500 producing 662HP

Never really cared much for this generation of Mustang but I still like it somewhat. Add in the fact it's a GT500 and I'd say this is a pretty cool car.

Cool.

That is not a looker compared to the Mustang from 2010 onwards. Plus it's technology was ancient even back then.

Uncool.

I didn't just win the lottery, I won a lot on the lottery and I once read a muscle car magazine.

Don't see the appeal.

As mentioned the earlier '03-'04 Terminator really made this seem obsolete, and a lazy effort comparably.

"I unironically came to a fancy dinner party in denim shorts and a cowboy hat. Yet, I can't understand why everyone is looking at me that way."

Seriously uncool. That said, I used to lust after that generation of Mustange in my teenage years and I still kinda like it to these days. Even if they have aged horribly as others have already pointed quite graphically in this thread...

Wow, that has aged spectacularly poorly.

Uncool.

Exactly the same reason I put uncool, the base model wasn't really anything special compared to how it's evolved to today. But looking at the exterior and interior and realizing how hyped up people got for this thing and how much it went for at the time...and it gets close to seriously uncool.

Its a bathtub with go fast stripes. the original never got my attention, and this one doesn't change that. event with a cobra symbol, and a more powerful engine

Uncool to the super

I wouldn't really call it a trailer suspension, most FF subcompacts probably have more in common with one, since the twist beam style axle is really popular in modern trailers.

However, I still agree the rigid axle did the car no favors when the Mustang already had IRS in the previous Cobra.

Looking at how ungracefully the front suspension wears on even basic s197 Mustangs, I almost think they should have put a beam axle up front with kingpins for longevity sake. The Lincoln LS bones at work...

Speaking seriously though, Ford had an IRS ready to go because of the car sharing much of the platform with the Supercharged Jag S Type R.

Always loved these things since they were new. Still do. Although I'd take a Terminator or a newer post 2011 Shelby model.

Cool.

I don't like modern mustangs in general but this car is cool, fun to drive even with its shortcomings such as the rear end. It's a solid ride.
