Additional Information: Introduced in 2011, the 991 Carrera is the base model of the most recent 911, replacing the ageing 997. The convertible models were introduced in 2012, while the most powerful GTS model was introduced in 2014. These models were the final 911's to feature naturally aspirated Flat 6's, with the 2015 991.2 Carrera's getting 3.0 turbocharged units producing over 360HP in the base Carrera. The Porsche 991 was titled World Performance Car 2012 shortly after famed Porsche designer Ferdinand Alexander Porsche died.​

I'll give it a meh, it's the plain Jane of the bunch. I've seen so many of these that the coolness of one starts to wear off. This is a pretty common 911, and the coolness factor goes up with every rarer iteration like the 911 GT3 and 911 R.

I usually see business women "who have finally made it after all" drive these (and obviously Cayenne) rather than ten years ago when those types would be driving a Boxster. I also see old men drive these. This has always been the euro equivalent of the Corvette. Where when you've finally hit that mid life crisis you buy a base 911 carrera.

As someone else said, if it was a GT3, RS, Turbo, Turbo S and so on then I'd see the cool

By 911 standards it's not especially cool, but I feel the basic 991 is a subtly cool car. The market it roughly occupies (£80k-£110k sporty coupes) includes the Maserati GranTurismo, Mercedes SL, Nissan GT-R, Audi R8 (the previous generation), BMW 6 Series, BMW i8, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, and Jaguar F-Type V8 S/R, so it's a segment with a lot of choice. Choosing the 911 over the others shows a focus on driving enjoyment, balance, and refinement. If you want to show off or buy something for the badge, you could get a GranTurismo, V8 Vantage, R8, or i8, all of which will probably turn more heads than a 911. I think that anyone buying a new 991 is probably someone who enjoys cars and has a generous budget, but still wants a good daily driver that works well in most situations and isn't too over the top. Basically, someone who will actually use the car and enjoy it for what it is.

Makes voting less complicated I suppose. Likely great driving appliances bereft of any soul beyond the driver. Uncool.

I don't think people consider 'drivers' cool though, pretty much borne out when an old colleague didn't think Tiff Needell was anywhere near as good a driver as Clarkson because he didn't slide it around everywhere...

I really do like this car... except the rims look terrible.

The fact that it is a 991 brings it from an Uncool to a Cool though, even though it's not the GT3 variant.

I do love the 991 body, it's probably my favourite 911 in terms of looks. It's a cool from me, because it's a sports car that doesn't scream about its performance and price, unlike others in that segment.

Just barely makes the Cool list for me. The detail changes over the 997.2 really give it a classy vibe in a subdued shade. I know it's bigger now than previous 911s, but I love the exaggerated hips of this model, especially the 4S with its taillight strip.

Certainly much cooler than an RS of the same gen.

In a world where Ford Explorers are getting to 60 in 5 1/2 seconds I find myself feeling indifferent to most anything new. The 911 however appeals to me in ways no other modern car can.

Against better judgement, I give it a cool.

Never really gelled with the 911, and this gen is no different, sure there's no doubting it's good at what it does as a technical drivers piece, but it's always been dull IMO. Somewhat partly why I've always loved RUF's is because they take the 911 nature to another level with their own creations; but that's a discussion for another thread.

Otherwise, it's very much uncool for me, with the slight exception of the GT3 etc...
