GTP WTAC Week 23 : Gone But Not Forgotten

*** Ok... so the title is kind of a lie. The JGTC didn't disappear, but just morphed into the Super GT. But I guess I just liked the dramatic thread title! I chose two GT300 class cars - mainly because more people tend to graviate towards the higher-horsepower GT500 class vehicles. I looked at the 'ugly ducklings' of GT300 and selected two of the least used cars. Now, when I say 'ugly ducklings', I don't mean in a visual sense (in fact, I like the look of both cars quite a bit)... I mean that they are overlooked and shunned as they are two of the weaker JGTC GT300 cars (the Wedsport Celica and the RE Amemiya RX-7 are the clear leaders of the pack). So, please join me as we honor a series that pretty much just changed names. And I hope you enjoy driving two of least used cars in the GT300 class! ***

I hope you guys already ran some laps with these cars at Nurburgring or at your favorite track while waiting for this week's track ;) !

Grand Valley Speedway Reverse? The car photos were taken on the start/finish straight. I've ran a few laps with both cars (on the Nurburgring), so I know what to expect.

Oh yesss... I have ran a full 8 hour endurance race (with a 4WD), so I have a bit of experience here. Time to run some laps!

The track for this challenge will be Twin Ring Motegi Road Course. This week is Round 8 of the 2010 SuperGT series at Twin Ring Motegi and we'll be simulating that event (just with older versions of the GT300 class cars): http://supergt.net/supergt/2010/1008/1008_index_e.htm

Thanks, easy!

👍

No Problem !

I wasn't 100% sure you would go for the track too, I know you want to fill in the blanks in the leaderboards so... I knew we were running JGTC but where ??? When Dan360 spoke about Grand Valley, I really thought we were going to run there ! If I knew you'd go for the combo JGTC Motegi, I would have told them the track !

Well, it was nice practicing at Nurburgring and Grand Valley !

So good luck all !

I've just put about 10laps in with the CWest Silvia. Best time so far is a 2:01.6xx

The only tuning I've done is

Aero Max/Max
Toe 0/0
Camber 0/0
All other values are default settings.

Never been a big fan of Twin Ring, and I thought these cars might be a little boring with the track layout, fast and wide. But the Nissan has plenty of grip, understeers nicely and is a lot of fun trying to ring it out around the corners.

Decided to start with the Spyder being an MR car.
Best time so far with the MRS-Spyder
2'02.xxx

EDIT:
I experimented on a drift run with the MRS. Hahahah. A measly 2'08.xxx record.

Is it even possible to make faster drift runs against grip runs on pro physics. I guess this is a question for Fuchur. :)

I ran few laps too to see, haven't run Arcade yet, L-F tuning :

Nissan C-WEST RAZO SILVIA (JGTC) '01 : 2'02.886
Toyota SUPERAUTOBACS APEX MR-S (JGTC) '00 : 2'00.211

I'm still a Toyota Race Cars fan !!!

I'm looking forward to see Lion-Face - Dan360 "fight" ;) !

That said, everyone of us could be this week' surprise ;) !

Good luck WTACers !

I also ran some laps last night. I zeroed out the rear toe setting and increased the rear wing to maximum and the front aero to half (I think the number is 25 or 26). Everything else was set at it's default level.

Toyota MR-S: 2'01.932

Nissan Silvia: 2'02.410

AFter winning 10consecutive S class races with the MRS. I decided to visit Nurburgring first and punish myself . I'll be running Motegi again later tonight or tomorrow mornng while riding the bus.

I should mention that we need to be careful when taking our pictures - we have to scroll down a bit so we'll be able to see both the physics and the tires. The car names are just too long!

Hello guys, a 'basic tuning' session with the MR2 gave me 1'59.9xx. I set camber and toe to 0, and max downforce. No good times with the Silvia yet.

Did some runs last night and tonight in both cars spending most of my time in the MR2. Took me a while to find best breaking points for the MR2 to carry most speed into corner and get a good exit keeping the rear in check. Also found staying in third rather than shifting down to second in some of the 90 degree corners was actually faster. Found the Nissan to understeer more than the MR2 and struggled to get it to turn into to some of the corners. With tuning on both cars best times were:

Toyota MR-S: 1'59'363
Nissan Silvia: 2'01.516

nice times with the MRS!!
I was curious as to how you tackle the victory corner. for me its the weirdest corner for this track. I always loose grip when finishing the lap.

my best MRS time now is 2'02.1xx

Attached the ghost data of my lap fastest lap with the Toyota if you want to take a look at the braking points and lines I was using in the corners. I did make a minor mistake on that lap in the final corner as I carried too much speed into corner which compromised my exit. Think if braked a little earlier I could have got on the power sooner and gained about .2 of a second maybe.

The hairpin tends to be the corner I have the most difficulty keeping the back in check and not running wide onto the grass. Lost count of the number of times that I have went off there in the past two nights.

SUPER!! thanks!!! :)

New times for the MR-S is 1'58.1xx and the Silvia ran a 2'01.6xx. I'm hoping to shave one second with both times, now that i've learnt the track.

Did some more running tonight with both cars new times are

Toyota MR-S: 1'58.413
Nissan Silvia: 2.00.868

WOW !!! I just ran for an hour with the Nissan Silvia and reduced my time to 2'01.741. I don't see myself in 2'00.xxx... Hope to have a low 2'01 !

Good luck all !

There was a power outage last night and the PSP's battery was almost dead at that time... so no laps for me. I'll get back on the horse tonight!

Another hour for me and a 2'01.357 with the Nissan but this is hard !!! I've never struggled that much before !!! Wait... I have : Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI GSR TOMMI MAKINEN EDITION '00 / Motegi ...

When I watch the replay I see where I should ba able to be faster but hard to be consistent here ! Great job Sylar !!!

And I'm still in L-F tuning, I tried spring+damper default but I'm way slower so back on L-F tuning !

I'll try again later tonight and then I'll run the Toyota !

Good luck all !

WOHOOO!!!!!!!!
2'00.022 for the MRS! Striving to beat Sylar's first replay post. That's 2.5 second improvement for me.
If I can't overtake his ghost tonight, that's it for the MRS. S15 starting tomorrow!

OK that's it.
My MRS' final time is gonna be 1'59.669.

Wasn't able to beat Sylar's ghost after almost 70 laps and 3 days in Motegi. But, I'm happy I was in the lead until the V corner, where he pulled away just 2 car lengths in front of me at the finish.

Thanks!

Yeah I do feel you red ice... Same thing for me, I always "mess up" at least one corner -well sometimes I don't see where I made mistake but I must have because I'm slower.... - and unfortunately at Motegi consequences are huge !!! I would say Hairpin and Victory Corner are the two I still don't get...

I'm thinking like you, already spent a little bit more than two hours with the Nissan C-WEST RAZO SILVIA (JGTC) '01 only to see my time coming from 2'02.886 (in less than ten laps) and down to 2'01.357... And I still haven't run again the MR

Now I can say that Motegi and Laguna Seca are the two tracks I really don't understand... Well Laguna Seca is a weird track because some day you're doing great and then you spend weeks eating the sand !...

Now I am very curious to see what will this week leaderboard !!!
