GTP WTAC Week 53 : Catch Your Breath

*** This week will feature two sporty cars (one is a sedan and one is a coupe) with a bit less power than the previous few weeks. It is a great time to 'catch your breath' with two slightly more manageable vehicles. We'll still have the challenge of switching between a higher horsepower front-engine, front-wheel drive sedan (the Volvo) to a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive coupe (the Pontiac). I had recently mentioned here on GT Planet that the Pontiac Solstice coupe was one of my least favorite cars (due to the low top speed and short gear ratios), but I found a track that suits it just fine and none of the negatives seem to be an issue. ***

1. Track : Twin Ring Motegi East Short Course

I'll go ahead and set the bar for this one, 20 laps with each car (stock tuning)...

Solstice - 1'38.1xx
S60 T-5 - 1'39.9xx

I usually don't like FF cars but I was pleasantly surprised bu the Volvo, it's actually quite responsive compared to the other FF cars we've used recently.

The race is on! :gtpflag:

Pretty sure! hehe! but thing with this track is that it has a lot of hairpins followed by straights so what I do is going a little more slow than normal entering those hairpins positioning the car in a way that let me start accelerating as early as possible. Turns 2, 3 and 4 are key also, going from turn 2 to 3 you need put the car as much to the right of the track as possible so you are better positioned to take turn 3 so after that you can go flatout all the way to turn 5.
Once you put all that into one lap the time shaved is huge.

My first times with moderate tuning are:

Pontiac - 1'37.1xx
Volvo - 1'38.4xx

Note: I am using manual transmission for both cars. I use it instead of Automatic transmission, because using AT shifts before the red-line, whereas in manual you can shift as late as you want, giving maximum potential from the power band from the car. It's quite a challenge with the Solstice Concept as the gear ratios are very low, but I get used to it.

Another note: I'm busy this weekend, so it's doubtful if I can submit on Sunday or Monday. I will be submitting tomorrow just in case I don't have enough time to submit this weekend.

:gtpflag:

^@Dan360 - Have you been using automatic transmission all this time? If so, you're about to get even faster. :scared:

Yep! :D

I think I will stick to automatic with high powered cars like the FGT and the F2007, as for other cars such as road cars, I will be using manual. Manual is a good advantage as you can shift into the redline to keep within high HP of the power band, and good for corners if you want to take a corner 1 gear higher or lower than the AT recommendation. In most cases I keep one gear higher to reduce wheelspin out coming out of the corner.

Anyone who have played games which involve 'fingerhooking' such as the Monster Hunter series should be able to change gears easily. For anyone who doesn't know how to 'fingerhook', simply control the analog with your thumb and the d-pad with your index finger.

I'm posting early in case I don't have time to do it on the weekend.

Braking into the 1'37.xxx isn't an easy task with the Volvo. I managed a 1'37.8xx and thats probably my submission time.

 MVR08

I'm sure "Catching my breath" : Twin Ring Motegi dosen't like me, I can't be fast on it !

Small improvements today :

Volvo S60 T-5 Sport '03 : 1'39.599

Pontiac Solstice Coupe Concept '02 : 1'38.588

I have no patience left for the volvo -by the way, in french, when a car is very slow, we call it a "veau", pronunced like "vo" so "volvo"...-

I'll give the Pontiac another shot !

I didn't get any opportunity to race last night, so I'm submitting my last times achieved from Friday evening. It was strange going from a tight car (too much understeer) to a very loose one (possibly too much oversteer - at least for me). I wish there was a way (without using CWcheat codes) to lengthen the gear ratios for the Pontiac Solstice - that would make the car more usable on other tracks.

I hope to see everyone for this coming week as we tackle two rally tracks!

sorry for being so quied this weekend, today is mothers day and a good friend came from new york so kind of a crazy day but i submit my times as soon as i have time.

WTAC Week 53
HI friends! Wasn't able to do much racing this week as I was busy making a WTAC anniversary tribute to Sylar,Dan360, MVR08 and sir L-F's PDFGT laps last week. I was making a 4-way cockpit view and dynamic view a-la Formula 1 Qualifying Events. I must admit its very hard to sync the times in milliseconds. Hahaha!! Though I was satisfied with the Live Aerial/Tarmac view and sequential IN-OUT of the pitlanes.
For this challenge...Did some quick laps 30minutes ago and here's the result:

My submission this week.

Course: Twin Ring Motegi East Short Course / Forward
Vehicle: Volvo S60 T-5 Sport '03
Time: 1'40.254
