I've been looking at the Forum Statistics box today, and I thought it would have been interesting to see how GTP's growth has tracked throughout the years in terms of post, thread and member count.

I did some digging, and the most well documented is post count:
May 2011 - 5 Million
https://www.gtplanet.net/gtplanet-forums-reach-5-million-messages-posted/
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/5-million.198880/
Dec 2014 - 10 Million
https://www.gtplanet.net/gtplanet-forums-reach-10-million-posts-thank-you/ (also includes a nice graph charting post count)
Currently, we are 150k away from 11 Million.

For thread count we have an informal thread that seems to have been forgotten:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/one-hundred-thousand-threads-gtp.112660/
Dec 2008 - 100,000
Unknown - 200,000
Sep 2015 - 300,000
Currently, we are still close to 300k at 305,000 (I wonder if threads in course maker database are counted?).

For member count, I managed to find celebrations for 100k and 200k:
Sep 2007 - 100,000 (https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/100-000-member-update.85979/)
Nov 2011 - 200,000 (https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/gtplanet-near-200-000-users.231358/)
Currently, just passed a quarter million at 255,000 members.

It's always interesting to see the difference in which members was active back in the day and who are still active now. The whole forum dynamic is always shifting. It's like stepping back in a time capsule :D

Would be great if @Jordan could make graphs for thread and member count as well 👍 I don't know if such infos are tracked though.

I've been on GTP for almost 10 years now (golly how time flies :scared:) and I come here almost everyday. The biggest explosion was definitely around the release of GT5 back in 2010. The forum was absolutely bustling back then. This year over the last few months I have noticed activity has been declining somewhat. There's less new threads and posts each day. I've been looking at Alexa Rank's page (http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/gtplanet.net) and you can see the traffic difference. No doubt people's waning interest in GT is a big factor. PCARS' release helped to bring some activity back but that has settled down a bit now. Even the announcement of GT Sport in late October did little to raise interest except for a short while. There's a spike in search mid December, but I can't think of anything that might cause that. With no big racing games announced on the horizon, and people are still a bit wary of committing to GT7, I wonder if we will ever see GT5 levels of activity ever again? Also because of the main subject matter of this forum (racing games) being such a niche topic, I expect member count to reach a saturation point eventually. Not that I'm encouraging account/thread/post spamming btw :P

Anyway, I'm glad to be part of this community. Large or small, busy or calm, it has always been my home on the internet. Thank you all for being a part of GTP and we'll keep growing together

I have been looking at the post count for a while now waiting for it to reach 11 million to make a thread about that specifically.

Very nice that you took it to the next level and figured out some older stats too mate.

Another way in which GTP has grown (though this can't really be measured) seems to be general maturity. Often when I have a look at really old discussions - like, over a decade old - I keep thinking a lot of those posts would be deleted as useless spam or generally inappropriate conduct. :ill:

I feel that's forum dependent. There's still a lot of immature mud slinging and bickering in the GT/PCARS forums sometimes, though that have died down recently because the forums in general are quieter. In the old days the mods seems to be more lax when it comes to enforcing rules, but GTP as a whole has less members back then and feels more "tight-knit", so those kinds of informal discussion are allowed. These days if you relax the rules it will just degrade into 4chan pretty quickly.
