2 rounds done and the racing has been close and exciting. Now on to round 3 and the first Enduro race of the season. First though is qualifying, and a lap of Suzuka is by no means an easy thing!

Feel free to discuss sector times only, but no discussion of final lap times is allowed.

The Toughest Corners:

The hairpin is probably the first major trouble spot. Although the S's can be annoying, it's this sharp, low-speed corner that will cause some spins first. Then, as you roar around 200R, you'll hit the Spoon curve. It's most likely that most of us will go off here at least once.

130R is also a tricky corner that looks faster than it is. But the deadman's curve on Suzuka is by far the tight, low-speed Casio Triangle. Drivers will have to slow to around second or first gear to navigate this chicane. Plus, it's a blind corner, coming off of 130R. Look for your marks to begin breaking and be careful not to carry too much speed, or you'll end up in the tires. Getting in the gas too early, coming off of the triangle is also a problem, especially on cold or worn tires, and drivers will often find themselves in the dirt. Suzuka contains some of the tightest and slowest corners amongst, small, rolling hills. It is also one of the only tracks to feature an overpass. It's a tough track to tame and those who can, will find themselves at the top of the leaderboards.

After a few laps, I have a 45.396 - 1'22.370, which definitely could be better, but I would be happy submitting it. One nice part of the weight penalty is that wheelspin is almost a non-issue.

Mighty Suzuka!

I think its just a great track. Such a mix of corners:tup:

I just need to get better at a few places:

Degner curve
Hairpin
Spoon curve
130R
and the final esses

Perhaps in another 5000 miles:idea:

Good luck everyone!

Well, I'm back in the negatives with the wt penalties. :grumpy: Tough competitors in both classes. Good to have Austin343 back where he belongs. With the monkey on his back.

I ran some laps last night, I can still find some more time to improve
Usually wait for others to post but what the heyy, I'll post my slowpoke times :D
T1 - 43.405
T2 - 1'18.572

Ran my 17-20 laps with the Bentley. Made a decent improvement over last year. On to the Nissan.

Edit: As per Raz_10's reminder. :sly: Will post T's on both in the next day. :)

Currently:

LMP 44.246 - 1'21.057
GT1 46.480 - 1'25.050

Stopped after I heard my best lap ghost laugh as he kept passing me.

OK, here is what I have so far...
LMP 42.7/1'17.8
GTS 47.7/ 1'27.3

this track is going to be tough when the laps start to pile up.

I did some practice laps today in the Toyota with results:

T1 42.302
T2 1'17.888 (got some room for improvement in the spoon curve)

Well here's my splits:

42.796
1'18.287

Not the fastest splits here I know but i'm really happy with them. Made a massive improvement over last season too, maybe i've finally got the hang of this place (a bit).

Splits of my submitted times:
LMP: 43.774, 1'19.232 - Went a little wide in 2 and the Hairpin
GT1: 46.983, 1'24.965 - Brief slide in Gyaku Bank Curve and went wide at the Hairpin
GTS: 48.782, 1'28.170 - Just about wide going into Spoon and nearly lost it coming out of the Casio Triangle

Greetings all -
I have submitted my Suzuka times.

GT1 splits were: 46.603 and 1.24.144

A decent lap for me, but still left time on the track.

I'm having trouble with the hairpin and the final esses.

Respectfully,

I did some test lapping in the R390 with results:

686 HP / 980 Kg
T1 44.7 (44.4)
T2 1'22.4 (1'22.3)

I was originally going to drive this car for the GT1 class.
Firstly for the reason , that it could be driven in Black
and secondly because I liked the huge turbo it has. ( well.. it was nice on R2's too)
When I was preseason testing it I felt there was not enought power to keep up with the others cars nor the AI.
AI was then at 8 and the power was lower than now. :ouch:

As you may guess I chose the Toyota for the reason , that it can be driven in Black
and again it has a turbo , which I find more suitable for me than NA.
The Audi R8 also had turbo , but I found it too irritating to drive.
It was fast , but I couldn't concentrate on the road as well as in the GTOne.

Splits from my submitted LMP run.

T1 42.036
T2 1'17.372

Congrats to all pole sitters, and also to MadMax86 and Austin343 for setting new lap records!

Great race! This surface seems to offer great grip but slower tire wear..hmm has anyone ever noticed different tire wear at different tracks? may be I am mistaken.

You can certainly notice different levels of grip at different tracks, so it follow that tyre wear would also vary ?

Not looking forward to actual Race, but here is vid of my qualifying effort.
Mucked up the last RH at the esses which also mucked up the next corner but other than that I am pretty happy with it.

BMW F1 McLaren GTR Qualifying @ Suzuka

I'm guite suprised to grab the pole position in LMP.

Round one I was faster than Austin343 was last season , but I got beaten by 0.5 seconds.
At round 2 I was 0.3 seconds behind him , but got pole position there.

I'm very familiar with Suzuka track as it's been used guite often in current weekly race series/GT5P
So.. now I was exactly 0.3 seconds faster than he was last season

I gotta say Austin343 you've got some serious skills , being able to corner with the Panoz. 👍
I find it guite stiff and unpredictable when cornering.

Compared to the Panoz the R390 is so mutch easyer ride.
Oh , my lap in the R390 GT1 was 1'42.165 .
With a few more laps I would have been in the 41's .

It's interesting that you describe the Panoz as "unpredictable" when cornering, because I find it extremely predictable. However, the cars that I find hardest to drive fast on a qualifying lap in GT4 are the LMP cars, precisely because I find them unpredictable, or at least, hard to find their limits and not go beyond them.
