The final round of the GTPLMS championship is here and the overall winner of both GT1 and GTS are still up for grabs as well as many other spots in the rankings. So here's to an exciting finale to the years racing:tup:

There are 2 dubious areas of track here and the rules will be as follows:

Exiting turn 6 leading to turn 7 there is a yellow line in the middle of the track, this may be cut.
Outside of turn 7 there is a yellow hatched area, this may be cut.

Feel free to discuss sector times only, but no discussion of final lap times is allowed.

Austin343 has requested the number of laps for the race as he will be away so it will be 33 laps.

I'm going to be gone from this Saturday all the way through Tuesday the 27th, so I'm going to complete both the qualifying and the race this week. Thanks for accommodating me, ABud. 👍

Also, there are three other dubious areas: the coned-off piece of tarmac exiting turn 7, the piece of tarmac in the right ess just before turn 8, and the cones marking the pit entry (which could become relevant if we want to widen the entrance to the hairpin). Are these valid?

Edit: Actually, ignore the first two, because they're definitely behind lines. And I assume that the pit entry is the same way.

I don't think you should drive a race car at nearly 200mph straight at cones so I'd say no.

Well, it looks like I'm not going to get the race in after all. I was busy this week, and in the end I wasn't really looking forward to the race very much because my controller has started acting funny. To give you some context, I took pictures of its front and back, as well as my setup (very advanced, as you can tell  - the TV's right speaker likes to cut out when it feels like it, which is really pretty irritating largely because it then makes staticky noises ):

The rubber covering on the left analog stick has been missing for over a year, but I've long since adapted to it. The cracks on the back (which are hard to see because of the poor quality of the photo - sorry) are more recent, and, I think, are the source of my issues. What I've been experiencing is a large number of unintentional, or even completely uncommanded, gear changes and handbrake applications. In other words, when I'm braking or cornering, I mysteriously go up or down by a couple of gears, or find that the handbrake is being applied.

I think I understand the gear changes, at least partially: under braking and hard cornering, my hands clench tightly, which seems to have extended to the fingers that I hold above the gear change buttons. What I can't figure out is why it suddenly appeared in this particular combo, particularly with such prevalence; my guess is that those cracks have reached a critical point, and either have reached some important connections that make the shift buttons much more sensitive, or give way enough that my fingers are resting more heavily on the shift buttons than they used to. But the handbrake is strange to me; I can't contort my hand in a plausible way to reach the circle button, so I can only guess that the pressure on those cracks is somehow reaching the pressure mechanism of the button. Whatever the cause, these mystery inputs get old really fast, and I can't use another controller because, as I'm sure that many of you know, you're all over the place and can barely control the car at all if you don't use the one that you've "broken in" by using for years.

Anyway, I do have a qualifying time with splits of 16.215 - 49.774. GTsail has a great chance of claiming the championship, and congratulations in advance if you do. :)

"You can't teach a young dog new tricks." Just go out and buy another one. If I can do it you can too. Had to make a couple of changes in the last year. First was new controller. Old one lost the rumble feature. Try riding over the rumble strips with no feedback. Then I rearranged the basement and had a new angle on the 31 in. tv from the front instead of a somewhat side angle from the left. Had to move my chair back 5ft to about a 10-12ft distant.

Both were during last year's SuperGT @ Fuji 90's. After a couple of days everything was back to normal. Considering our skill differences, it should take you about 2 hours to get back to normal. But be prepared for the steep prices. http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-2-Dualshock-Controller-Black/dp/B00004YRQ9/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1279386293&sr=1-1

I don't want this to happen when you see me placing above you because you didn't run some week in the future. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Yr-Pp4PFVA

edit: Have replaced above link to one featuring Sony PS2 controller. I agreee with SS is about reliability.

just remember: only buy Sony brand controllers 'cause they last the longest. Seriously, I was at a video store yesterday and the only controller that was still in relative working order was the PS3's DS3 (it was missing an analogue stick and, while you could move the cursor, it would always return to the right side of the screen. but it still worked.)

I have never used the vibration feature or the analog stick before last week. The sound does not work consistently and the massive 20" screen goes black and white every time someone uses an appliance in the building. I sit in a dogs bed to drive with a 80 lb. yellow lab by my side.

My controller shifted randomly at one event but seemed to cure itself. I don't think I would want to deal with that for too long.

Submitted my LMP time few seconds before deadline :sly:

I'm sorry to hear about your controller problems Austin343. I know what you mean about driving in a controller 👍

Seems like playing too mutch GT4 resulst as a broken/disfunctional controller

Too much GT4 is barely enough :):)

I have worn out four DS2's in 10 years of playing.

btw - Austin, if that is your playing position you are waaay to close to the TV ! Move further back or get an LCD TV.
Seriously.

only four controllers in 10 years is pretty good. I think when I had a 360, I had to replace that controller every few months to a year. but a new controller every 2.5 years is a lot better. :P

It seems that another consequence of releasing a system in the middle of it's development is not getting the chance to put it through abuse tests and releasing an overly fragile system.

For those who remember the PS One , they must have been designed specifically to withstand the rigours of being abused by 14 year old boys.

You could not kill those things with an Axe

Funny how things work out. The bike series I run in also was at Infineon this week. RacerPaul uses a randomizer similar to the one developed for GT4. Quite a lot of fun on a two wheeler. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Kk_n4LV1UY

Any complaints and I'll remove this. Imagine trying to get through that last chicane in a car. :scared:

done it. :P the Ferrari Challenge game uses the motorcycle course of Infineon for some unknown reason. It's actually a bit better in a car 'cause cars have better handling than bikes.

Sorry about the late posting of the results. I've had a lot on this last week and continue to now as well, doubt i'll be able to do the race either. Congrats to everyone who did run, some really good times there!

I want to thank ABud personally for the great GTPLMS series(s) he has put together. I had gotten tired of GT4 a couple of years ago. Thinking I would never get to that mythical 100% game completion. Let alone actually beating #34. Entering GTPLMS 34 got me back in the swing. Made me a better driver. Not great, not good. But better. Which is just fine with me. :)

Yes, this has been an amazing series. Thanks for dedicating so much of your time in the past weeks for our enjoyment. It's been fun trying to keep up with you!

This is a great track, the viper feels like it has a big barrel of water in the trunk that swishes me sideways at the end of turn one.

I recorded my qualifying lap:

Turns 4 and 11 were where issues occurred. Fortunately, it looks like my controller problem is effectively limited to only certain cars and tracks. It doesn't actually fix itself, but I evidently don't mash the controller so hard when driving road cars, and it works as usual.

btw - Austin, if that is your playing position you are waaay to close to the TV ! Move further back or get an LCD TV.
Seriously.

Why do you say that? Is it supposed to be bad for your eyes to sit close to the TV? This is just what works for me - I think it must be because I don't see much but the track ahead when sitting so near.

It may be bad for your eyes because of possible eyestrain, not sure about that.

I am more concerned about the possible exposure to Radiation from poorly shielded or faulty CRT Televisions. It is a very low risk but sitting too close increases the chances of exposure, especially if for extended periods.
The recommendation is to sit 5 - 7 feet away which negates any possible risk.
Modern flatscreen LCD PC monitors and TV's do not have this inherent risk associated with their use.
