GTS Tire modelling

Try this - only for wheel users I'm afraid, oh and this is on PS4

Come to a full stop on tarmac, hold the brakes, turn the wheel 45° in either direction, and then let go. Notice how the wheel springs back a bit. Pretty much like it would in a real car.

In a real car this spring back effect is caused by the deformation of the tire rubber as you turn the wheel - the rubber gets twisted as you turn the wheel and builds up tension. This tension is released when you let go of the wheel and the rubber goes back to a position of equilibrium, as far as it can - hence the spring back effect.

Now try this in either PC2 or AC. Nothing nichts nada, no spring back at all. The wheel will just stay in exactly the same position as it was rotated too, and this is from the self proclaimed driving sim big hitters

Now is GTS actually modelling tire deformation, or could this just be a potted effect?

I noticed this about GTS some time ago and smiled about the realism of it - F1 2017 does the same thing as well.

I guess this just shows how much time I've spent bouncing off walls and coming to stop ;)

Except, GTS doesn't have caster even though GT5/6 did, so you have to straighten the wheel out manually, which is a glaring oversight imo.

Hit and miss..

FWIW, Gran Turismo is a PS4 only franchise.

Technically only Gran Turismo SPORT is a PS4 franchise all the other versions were for other versions of the Playstation!!

CJ

Just for clarification the reason I stated PS4 is that PC2 and AC are available on other platforms. It may be, however unlikely, that on those other platforms the behaviour exhibited may differ.
