Greetings all racers!

I have a confession to make, a rather dreary one. I have never put in time to get familiar with the Green Hell. I don't know why, really. Maybe it's because it's so long and the thought of the task of memorizing and learning a 21km, 170 turn racetrack, infamous for being unforgiving, punishing you for every little mistake .. was a bit scary?

Whatever the reason, I decided it's time. I've been playing Gran Turismo since the original and been a racing game enthusiast forever, and it's a scandal not having put in time on this legendary track! I'm gonna do regular Time Trial sessions on it, with various cars, and for fun I'm gonna share my best laps with you guys .

I'm definitely no alien and the laps I'll post in here are not gonna be breaking any records aside from my own, but it's gonna be a fun ride for me and I hope some might find it enjoyable to watch :).

My driving setup is the following:

Logitech G29
ABS: Weak
All aids off
Manual Transmission
Cockpit camera

For neutrality's sake I drive with everything stock, and that includes BoP off, default tires, default tune, etc. Basicly drive the car as it is presented to you from the box.

So, let's get on with it! :)

Entry #1: First Session - Aston Martin Vantage Gr.3

The only reason I chose the Vantage was because I had just made that livery for it :D. It's a fun drive but it surprised me how heavy the steering was. I'm not sure how many laps I put in total, but the first few were quite bad to say the least. I slowed down a bit to put in a few clean laps, getting more used to the track and gradually increased my speed.

At the end of tonight's session I had made considerable progress and was coming to terms with the track faster then I anticipated. Although there is plenty of room for improvements, I'm quite happy with the results.

I haven't decided what car I'll use for my next session, but probably gonna be another Gr.3 car.

Stay tuned! :D

[EDIT, 15.02.18] I felt like I had more in me for the Vantage, so I did some more laps, and I managed to improve the lap by almost 9 seconds, resulting in sub 7min lap. Quite happy with the lap!

I updated the lap and link in the original post.

This track is hard, and if I'm not 100% concentraded, I will be punished, it's just that simple. After watching your lap video, I took the Z4 for spin, easy to drive for a GT3 car, and managed 6:57:xxx, and still some room for improvements.
I choose to use the BoP for power, RH tires and everything else stock, no aids, except for default ABS.
I still have to try the Vantage, but my new favorite car is the Jaguar F-type, great looking, sounds good, nice handling, and also good top speed, which comes in handy at Döttinger Höhe.

Looking forward to see more from you, fighting with the Ring 👍.

Is anybody testing car times against real life? I was gonna do that but then read that they time them 200 meters short from the end for safety reasons, so that complicates matters, especially since the last bit is technical and you have to brake a lot adding quite a few seconds.

I will see if the game times the prelast sector 200 meters short, and if not then drive backwards from the start and locate with the odometer where the 200 meters are and roughly estimate with that point in time trials.

At the hone straight on the Nordschleife there's a white line just after the last corner. It seems pretty convincing that that's the 200m finish line

Yeah it's definitely a tough track, but I'm loving it. Actually kinda bummed I never gave the track any love until now.

That's a good lap I'd say with the Z4! :). The F-Type is nice, haven't driven it much yet, but eventually it'll get its entry here. Hoping to put in some more laps this week. Work is hectic now but I always try to squeeze in some GTS time.

Haven't done such comparisons and probably wont :). Would be interesting to see though. Didn't know about the 200m.

Update! Before doing another car, I felt like doing one more run with the Vantage, and I beat my old time by almost 9 seconds! :). Managed a 06:59.910 and was quite happy with that lap, although it's not perfect.

I've uploaded the replay to YouTube (click here) and updated the original post with the new time and link =).

Welcome to Green Hell...

So its been about 4 months since I've done a full bore lap of Nurburgring, due to its lack of appearance in sport mode (I was busy that one day it showed up as Race C :( )

Reading this makes me wanna have a go and see what time I can pull on the first lap :P

So you want to be Iceland's answer to Germany's Sabine Schmitz?

A worthy goal indeed! I think I read that she does 1,200 laps per year and has about 20,000 laps recorded.

Good luck, mate!

Haha, That´s over 3 laps a day on average, it's doable but doubt I'll manage those numbers :D.

But man, the more I drive the track the more I fall in love with it, such a thrill!

Be worth always using the same tyres. I use RH for my N'ring laps but also put BoP on.

Also if you find the steering heavy what settings do you have on the wheel feedback?
