Hello everybody!

I made a thread the other day asking about people's Gran Turismo obsessions, with mine being statistics where I explained and discussed my GT excel charts. For those who didn't see it, short story is that I've had a tradition since Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and through GT5 and 6, to pick a track and run hot laps with all cars I acquire with stock setup. I haven't started it yet, but I plan to do so soon. Chart is ready, just empty as of now and I haven't pick my track yet :D

I have also made a chart for my Sport Mode progress, where I log every race (only 4 races so far).

I thought why not just share my progress with you fellow racers :). I'm gonna keep this post updated as I go along, and I'll do a little summary write up of the races I do, and my thoughts on the cars I hot lap as well.

For the record, I drive using the DualShock 4, with ABS on "weak" and different level of Traction Control depending on the car driven. Other aids are off.

Explanations for Sport Mode Chart:

QF
= Qualifying
RR = Race Results
Digg. = Difference between qualifying position and end results
FL = Fastest Lap
Rep. and Rec. = Indicate if I have the replay or "live" recording on my HDD, in case I want to re-watch some tapes :D

DISCLAIMER: I consider myself a decent driver, but I am very very far from the elites and aliens in here :D. I do this for my own amusement, and hopefully you guys enjoy following my progress :).

I plan on doing a Sport race or two tonight, so more to come here soon! :D

First log!

Decided to try the N300 one make race in the Audi. Took a bit of time to practice the track as I've never raced it in reverse, but knowing the standard layout well since the previous Gr.4 daily races obviously helped. I got my 2nd pole position in a row and was almost 5sec faster then the 2nd place. Still around 5 sec slower then the Top 10 rankings, but I was pretty satisfied with my time.

Race started and the first lap was pretty closely contested, but in the second lap I made a comfortable gap and won the race by just over 4sec. I also managed to get my first fastest lap, and I moved up to DR D :).

Looking forward to next race against one tier higher rated opponents.

Sport Mode chart is updated :D

Log #2

I've been really busy at work, and was away for the weekend, but tonight was free so I decided to make a go for my first Gr.3 race.

Tonight's option was Dragon Tail - Seaside, 10 laps, with 20 drivers. I was pretty happy with that as I really like that track and know it decently.

This is my first race since being promoted to DR D (SR B) and was expecting tougher competition then before. I put in some work in qualifying and managed to get 4th position in the Mazda Atenza, and was content. The 3 drivers ahead of me were all DR C, and running on Porsche :D. Was hoping for a driver field of same DR as me, but I welcomed the challenge and was gonna race hard and do my best!

Race started, and in the first turn I already gain two spots, although that didn't last long. Most of the race I was juggling 4-6th place, having a hard battle with a couple of guys. I was perhaps a tiny bit too aggressive and bumped a couple cars by accident. However, couple of the guys were really annoying, repeatedly bumping the back of my car and ramming the sides, resulting in my SR going down multiple times during the race.

In the later laps I was cruising steadily in 6th place, finally away from the bumpercars and gaining my SR back. In the final lap, 5th and 4th place have a collision and I swoop in for the 4th place, and kept it through the lap, finishing 4th. Very satisfying overtaking those two, who were constantly bumping me during the race, due to a collision between the two of them in the last lap :D. No surprise, one of them had a 9sec penalty after the race, and both of them dropped SR. Unfortunately, so was I :(.

All in all, I'm happy with finishing 4th in a driver field with DR ratings of mixed C's and D's, and the 3 drivers ahead of me were all DR C.

I was really bummed out though as my SR dropped from B to C :(. As I said, I wasn't completely innocent as I had a couple of bumps being my fault, and I own up to that, but it was the constant bumping on the back and sides from the opponents that I believe made the difference and dropping me down a level.

My first impressions of a Gr.3 race were a bit of a mixed bag. This race wasn't nearly as civilized as my previous Gr.4 races, but of course this was just one race, and I can't judge by this race alone.

I'll keep updating here as I go along. Sport Mode chart is updated now with this race :)

Log #3 - Lap Chart Underway! (Chart in OP is updated)

My busy schedule continues, and therefore GT time has been sparse, but I couldn't sleep tonight so I started hotlapping for my lapchart. I drove 3 cars tonight. For the record, I use the DS4 as I don't have a wheel (yet), and I set ABS on "weak" setting. TC level varies depending on cars, and all other aids are off.

I select my car randomly. The method I use is a random number generator. For example, at the moment I had 48 cars in my garage, arranged in order of acquisition. Then I use randomizer to select a number between 1-48, and then I use the corresponding car.

Ford Mustang GT Premium Fastback '15
- 434 BHP
- 55,3 kgfm torque
- 1681 kg
- 0,26 BHP/kg power to weight ratio

The Mustang had the honor of setting the first lap. A really heavy, powerful FR car equals a bunch of wheelspin and oversteer. I had to use TC level 3 for the 'Stang to remain in decent control. A lot of weight shifting makes it not the best ride out there. It took me a while to manage a lap that I was satisfied with, but I'm sure with more time spent I can improve. Might re-visit it later on.

Best lap: 2:02,215
--------------------

Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Track '13
- 343 BHP
- 40,3 kgfm torque
- 1557 kg
- 0,22 BHP/kg power to weight ratio

The Genesis definitely surprised me. It might not be might powerful, but it's fun to drive. Driving it with no TC was a joy and it was very controllable, despite the rear end sometimes starting to dance. It didn't take me as long to set a lap worthy of the chart, and it wasn't that far off from the Mustang, just under 2.5sec.

Best lap: 2:04,633
--------------------

Lamborghini Venono '14
- 739 BHP
- 73,5 kgfm torque
- 1450 kg
- 0,51 BHP/kg power to weight ratio

Wanted to do one more car tonight, and it ended up being the insane Venono. With 4WD, heaps of power and a bunch of downforce, it was unsurprisingly quite fast around the track. Being 4WD it was not such a tough job keeping the car on the track, and no issues with leaving the TC off. It was a little prone to understeer, but going just a little slower in the corners was the key. By far the fastest car of the lot and the most fun to drive as well.

Best lap: 1:49,155
--------------------

That's it for tonight, gotta hit the hay. Thanks for checking in, if anyone is reading :D

More later, cheers! :)

Log #4 - Late Saturday Night Daily Race (Chart updated in OP)

My schedule stays busy, but I had the need for some racing tonight. It's quite late so I didn't have a bunch of time to practice, and it resulted in my worst results to date.

I decided to go for the 3 lap Gr.4 daily race at Suzuka Circuit, using the McLaren. After practicing for a little bit, setting ok laps, I entered the event. I got 7th position from my qualifying lap. Driver field was all DR D / SR C.

I had a very good first lap, cleanly gaining 3 places and was in 4th place after the first lap. I was certain I was gonna be battling for pole position in this race, confidence was high!

However, second lap I overshot the first corner and had a generally sloppy lap, falling back to 7th place again. In the 3rd and last lap I overshot the first corner again, but still managed to overtake later in the lap and crossed the finish line in 6th place, but landing 5th place overall due to a 2sec penalty on the player ahead of me.

It was a fun race and I can't blame anyone but myself for not finishing higher. It's late, almost morning, and I should have put in some more time in practice, and I'm sure I could've finished in pole position.

A little setback, but I'm locked in now on returning to a top 3 finish after failing that in the last two races. Also need to get my SR back up to B, and I'm also close to advancing to DR C :)

Stay tuned for the exciting follow up, hopefully soon! :D

Log #5 - Return to the Podium

I had a window to do some racing today and I decided to go for the daily one make race featuring the N300 Renault Clio on Yamagiwa II.

I spent a bit more time practicing now and got a good lap in, qualified in 2nd place. The race was pretty even, all drivers were same rating (DR D, SR C) and from what I could see the race was pretty clean. I kept my 2nd place until late lap 2/3. Here is what happened, from the case cam of the other guy:

I was awarded a 10 second penalty for this, and seemingly the other guy got away without one and finished in 2nd place. I was a little but bummed, having to work off my penalty I had zero chance of battling for the 2nd place, but managed to stay pretty safely in 3rd place.

Was still happy with the race, as I got my return to the podium, although it is the first race that I finish lower then I qualified :)

Chart is updated in the OP.

More later! :D
