The Light Glitch Guide V1.1 By Leungy

Introduction

This is a very straight forward glitch that I had stumbled upon a little while ago.
(Sorry for keeping it to myself, I just never really got around to it and assumed I wasn't the first)
What makes it tricky is it's limitations and depending what you want can be quite
time consuming and a bit of planning is required. Not sure whether to call this a glitch or just a trick
around how the replay system works.

Limitations

There are a few limitations to this glitch.

Firstly, the main limitation (for limited/no lights at night) is it can only be done on tracks that have a day/night cycle.
These Tracks include:
  • Circuit de la Sarthe 2009
  • Nüburgring Nordschleife
  • Nüburgring 24h
  • Toscana
  • Special Stage Route X

Secondly, the photos can only been taken at only the time checkpoints of the track,
as I will explain why later and also a possible untested bypass.

The Guide
I will just cover the basic way to achieve this glitch for night photos.

First Pick a car and a time cycle track and whatever game mode.

Second Setup the time/weather details. make sure you start in daytime.
Speed the time cycle up to 60 or whatever you need. (this will become key factor later on)

Third you need to drive around the track, starting from day and keep driving until night.
About 3 or 4 minutes if you set it to 60 Depending which check point you want to take your
photo you have set accordingly, if it is near the start of the track you could wait
around at the start until it gets dark/night.

Forth Leave the race and go and view the replay. You want to pause the replay
straightaway and use the the continue button to get to the desired night time scene checkpoint.
It is usually a black screen until it loads but after it loads what you will notice is that
because the replay is paused the lights have not updated since you paused,
Do not resume the replay, otherwise it will turn the lights on.

Fifth Once you got to the spot you go to the camera screen and start taking snaps and enjoy.

Additional

This glitch works both ways if you want lights on in a daytime photo.
Simply play the replay from a night scene (which turns the lights on) and pause and
flick back to the daytime part of the replay. (making sure not to resume the replay)

Tips and Tricks

It is possible to get different levels of lighting on your car in these dark photos. with messing around with the pause times of the replay.

This isn't tested but I am sure a possible work around the limitations of only
being able to take photos at only checkpoints, can be to either have the
replay of one make race or from a online race. these will require you to be
patient as you will have to manually walk around the track in camera
selection/photo mode.

In the end its all about good timing and good driving to get you to the part of
the track at the right time. Making sure to fiddle with the time settings and
with a lot of patients will get you the perfect photo.

Full beam in day, side lights only at night. and no lights at night.

End Notes

Thank you for reading and I hope to see this put to use and can't wait to see what others come up with. I
know I am not the best at writing so if there is any errors (guide issues or grammar and spelling) with the
guide please comment about it. Also please comment on whether you think its a glitch or a trick. When I
get around to it, I might put this into a redesigned fancy PDF file perhaps. I don't own a capture card so if
you do and think it is worth the effort please tell and we could collaborate on a either a guide with a
proper image guide or a complete video guide. hopefully this guide works haha, it sure would be awkward
if it didn't. Also not entirely sure if I got the full list of time cycle tracks, I am unsure if Twin Ring has time
cycle as I don't have that DLC at the moment.
Hopefully this was worth it the effort and possibly not get fixed over by PD :P

Updates And Findings

V1.1

I can confirmed this glitch tracks with weather cycle.
By doing similar steps from the guide going from normal weather to rain
or vice versa, you can achieve full (and/or even fog) lights, in normal weather.
EDIT: I should say that the windscreen wipers do get affected by this glitch. so take note of where
they are position when you pause the replay, as this is what it will be when you rewind/fast forward.
If you are having trouble timing the pause (if you don't have the toggle wiper assigned,
a good trick is (if available) is pause while in a tunnel. As it automatically turns off when you are in a tunnel.
These include:
  • Autodromo Nazionale Monza
  • Chamonix (all configurations)
  • Circuit De La Sarthe 2009
  • Circuit De Spa Francorhamps
  • Eiger Nordwand Track Short Track
  • High Speed Ring
  • Nürburgring 24h
  • Special Stage Route 7
  • Suzuka Circuit

Examples
Special Stage Route 7 - Regular lighting then glitch fog.

V1.2

Thanks and Enjoy.

Two things.
1: The fact that the movement is still glitched when skipping to a checkpoint without releasing the game from pause once annoys me and makes panning shots pretty unrealistic (wheels spin, but environment is frozen).
2: Where's the point in these? I see what you mean about fog lights because they really look good sometimes, but I'm wondering how a really dark, underexposured shot of a car without its lights on looks cool, well except if you simulate a parked car at night.

Edit: But I should mention it, great find! 👍

I have a small question about the weather change version of the glitch: does the track automatically appear dry when you skip forward from a wet lap to a dry one?

Again, great find, and thanks for sharing this. Now we can look forward to PD patching this because they're no fun.

Well, its not necessary that you take the photo in complete darkness, It was merely used as a example.
You can get rather nice ones just before it gets really dark.

I have only tested skipping back from a wet lap to when it was dry and from that it would
appear it reverts back to dry apart from the windscreen wiper that seem to stay in the
position it was in when I paused. So I am not sure what happens when you fast forward, I was
going to test it today but I got fed up waiting for the damn rain to start when trying to get a
photo of a fog lights in daytime with normal weather on Suzuka. I assume it would be dry
if it goes completely dry when after it rains when driving.

Feel free to add your results/findings to this thread.

Took 2 shots of my FD using this glitch. I had to use the highest shutter speed to make it look like it was parked because the road looked stationary.
