Hand Brake Action in Cockpit view?

Hi All,
Noticed in GT5P, when you use the hand brake the driver does not operate it physically! Will they sort this for GT5? In WRC they use them regulary and will look funny if you use it and the driver on screen does not!

Hand animation is currently only half done :( Addition to that hand brake thing hand movement does not match 1:1 to steering wheel input.

Lol
Somewhat off topic but... if we're going to have night races that probably means fully functioning lamps, so very likely reverse lamps!:sly:

If youre going in reverse... You did something wrong along the way... dont see the need for reverse lights... :sly: fully functional headlights ... Ok thats logical... with night races :)

Dont see the need for reverse lights when somoene is backing out of the barrier in the middle of the night on a blind corner...

They are essential.

You shouldnt be in the barrier in the first place... In all the online racing Ive done in GT5:P Ive never been in a situation where reverse lights are essential, if its a crashed car or myself... but thats just me... I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.. because this can go on for ages.. :P

P.S. - and if you're coming around a blind corner at race pace, day or night.. I dont think reverse lights will make much difference... ;)

No reverse lights are not essential for gameplay. Maybe not even the front lights, at least in circuits, where the track is well illuminated. :)

BTW in a WRC rally track at night they would be awsome 💡

Like the handbreak action inside the cockpit it's just a graphics detail to make the game more pleasant to the eye

I like your wording here... 👍 A better way to put it then them being essential...

Sure:tup:

btw Blitz thanks for your tunes, I've used them often 👍

No problem man... much appreciated... It has been quiet in the shop the past few weeks... but Im busy with a couple of other games :sly::sly: and GT5:P is a little bit dead... but once GT5 comes I will be back in business and going full force again!

Lets see if we can get back on topic...

I think the handbrake animation should ATLEAST be in the WRC part of GT5... I guess for track racing it would really be necessary unless youre drifting :D

I don't see how adding brake lights (which I'm sure would be ridiculously easy to do) could be a bad thing... Don't we want the game to be true-to-life? IMO it's the small touches that make GT stand out.

I would like PD to include a handbrake animation, it is one of those things that would make the game even more realistic. Also, why are people arguing over reverse lights? Although, i agree that they are a bit unneccesary, they would be a nice little detail and could be useful. For example, if you were in an online race and the track was dark (could also be a heavy shadow) how would you see if someone was reversing in the middle of the track, or back onto the track? The visibility would be even worse if their car was a dark colour. At least with reverse lights, they would be somewhat visible.

I agree to an extent... but I always keep GTPs OLR in mind as well... and if you follow that you shouldnt be reversing in the road if there are other coming... I think it states you should wait til the coast is clear if Im not mistaken... thats why I dont find it very necessary or even essential :)

People....In the cockpit view, you couldn't seen the damn reverse lights anyway!

Good point...

I don't know how this would work very well...
Gear changing on a controller and the G25 is very delayed because it's almost impossible knowing when you're going to shift (Unless they made something to work PS Eye). So the same would happen with the handbrake. You would press the button and about a second later would it actually show it. Other than that, I'm all for more little details like that! :)

Yeah, I dont see how it could work well as far as delay is concerned. I'd much rather see full rotation of the virtual wheel, or better yet, the option to turn the virtual wheel off. ;)

Agree... The animation will be delayed related to the gamer action (since you want a nice and clean hand movement animation). In that case you will get either of the 2 things which I know you don't want:
1) The whole hand-brake action will be delayed in order to sync the car reaction to the drivers animation
2) The car will react instantly (since the game must follow the gamer) but the animation will be delays - so it will be out of sync.
In both cases you will get results which a lot of people (same kind who want reverse-lights, i guess - just kidding) will say "hey, the animation is not in sync with the car).

Regarding reverse lights:
This is a racing game, not a destruction derby game. Did you ever see a race in which a car that hit the wall and drove reverse has a reverse lights? I think not.
You have to be careful when driving, and if you hit a wall, it's the driver's duty to go back to the road at the safest way can be and give all the others a clean pass before doing any move (in "clean" races of course)

As for night driving, then rear-lights should be implemented as well as head lights, but not reverse lights !!!
Of course it would be a nice feature, but because of the above I think it a waste of time for the car modelers/animators/game developers/CPU usage etc.

For the people saying we don't need reverse lights, it's a matter of the fact that they should be there in the first place.

The driver will never get out of the car in the game, so in that case we don't need doors then, now do we? But is it unrealistic to not include doors? Yes. So why should reverse lights not be there? Do real cars have reverse lights? Yes. Should they be in the game? Absolutely, without a question. How often you will use them is completely irrelevant. Reverse lights should have been included in GT3 at the very latest and there is no excuse for them not to be implemented yet, especially with the level of detail in the Gran Turismo games.

It doesn't affect gameplay but when you're focusing on realism, it's a pretty significant thing to miss. Every other racing game has them.

I personally think that both the Ebrake-driver movements and the Reverse lights are needed. My opinion comes mostly because I'm a drifter and having the Ebrake movement would feel more enjoyable when drifting. And for the reverse lights, they would just look cool, and just give the game a more realistic look overall specially since most of the cars in the game are indeed, street legal cars. But, that's simply my opinion.

If you want Ultra-realistic... Go drive your car in real life... This is a game and IMO reverse lights ARE still unnecessary in the BIG picture... People are complaining about the reverse lights ... blah blah blah... how about first sorting out the online penalty system or the little glitches with physics or crash dynamics (That also adds to the realism)... etc... And so many of you are worried about reverse lights which you will probably NEVER see and if you drive properly, NEVER use....:crazy:

GT5:P doesnt have any damage (or night time for that matter) so your point is moot. The reversing lights may give you that split second better reaction time to move off the line of an accident and onto the line of a near miss.

Of course you would never see your own, its all about OTHER vehicles in the game having accidents. It gives you an indication of the direction of movement of that vehicle. In a game where you can damage your vehicle it is essential to have these little things and can make the difference between taking damage and remaining clean.

According to many threads here on GTP, GT5 will have night time racing... So I dont know what youre talking about... and my point is not MOOT... Damage is also in the works if you watched the trailer... And again.. if you follow OLR and are a proper racer YOU WONT BE REVERSING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRACK. Wait til the coast is clear then you move... so YOUR point is moot because you shouldnt be reversing on track anyway...

Apologies, i meant GT5:P.

So you shouldn't be reversing if your nose to nose with someone who has spun? It happened to me on monday night in a Rfactor League race so dont say it doesnt happen.

Also you shouldnt be reversing if you are nosed up to a wall on a street circuit? (ie no runoff).

Its very unrealistic to drive you car into a wall and scrape it all the way along it just to rejoin the track.
