Hannibal Rising - I shall start by saying, i didn't think much of Silence of the Lambs or Hannibal. I did like Red Dragon though (yes i know!). So i was kind of scepticle about seeing this, but seeing as all the reviews i have read said it was cack, i was quite optimistic.

I was half right. Its simply "alright". No more no less. Its frequently disgusting (well according to the amount of times Anna went "ewww" or "urrr"). It's not scary at all & dosen't really justify its 18 cert. This is another film in the long line of prequels (Batman, Chainsaw Masacre etc). But this really wasn't needed.

Its perfectly watchable, but it's also completely pointless. There really was no need to make a Hannibal lector prequel. We do get why he is a pyscho, but this new guy playing just isn't Anthony Hopkins. He isn't even that good. He looks really menacing, but his voice is very muddled. It comes out in a mix of Russian/French/Italy/Japanese. The asian Aunt (Gong Li, or Bai Ling, im sorry i forget which is which) is very good with the little screen time she has. Rhys Ifans is slightly off, he's not hard enough to play the character he is playing, but he is a good watch. I really liked Kevin McKidd, who most of you won't know (Dog Soldiers & Trainspotting), he was the guy with the kids.

The stlying of the film is very muddled, it has a really eary soundtrack sometimes, but it dosent work with the fast flash cuts that are sometimes used. Also the ending is very bad, it should've ended 5 minutes earlier when he finally has his "meal" ;).

Basically, its good, but not really memorable. It will probbaly make you go ewww a few times, but thats about it. Watchable, but not essential.

I heard that they mention a "small village near Saskatoon", and the village is called "Melville"... is this true?
