Well, since this little session is probably going to be the last one for the year, and since no New Zealanders have come forward to identify themselves so it looks like my fellow Australians and I will be the first of the forum to hit 2002, I would just like to say

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

It's been a tough one, gang, but we got there.

Let's hope it's a peaceful, safe and successful one for all us.

Hey, don't you still have about 12 hours to go? I think you're jumping the gun there a bit bub. New Years isn't until ... the new year (:

6 1/2 - but as I pointed out in the post, this will be the last chance to wish everyone HNY - and I do. I really hope everyone sees tonight as a turning point.

It's a rare turn of optimism from me. Get into it while it lasts.

You and your optimism! What's it good for? Heh heh ...

Oh, that reminds me of a great story. I came walking into my 7th grade math class and passed the guy in the first chair and with my standard cheery voice I say, "Mornin` Chris! How's it going?", to which he replies in his grumpy morning voice, "I HATE YOU! YOU'RE ALWAYS SO DAMN HAPPY! LEAVE ME ALONE AND GO AWAY!". After a moment of silence and intence eye contact with the others already in class, I respond, "Alrighty then", and take my seat.

Chris had mental issues, no really he did. He was two years ahead in school because he was so smart, but he couldn't control his emotions. Very disturbing (and disturbed) individual.

HAPPY FREAKING NEW YEAR!

Well, now it is 2002 here (12.35am). So happy new year.

I sincerely hope the best for everyone on the forum (and everyone else).

Cheers to all. Hope the hangover isn't too bad.

Ahhh, another year down, and I still haven't stopped writing '00 on my checks... I guess now I'll finally write '01 for the next 12 months...
And to all revelers going out tonight, be particularly careful this year... It's a full moon so there will be extra wierdos on the road, and werewolves to boot. ;)

Nonetheless I hope everyone has a Happy and Safe New Year. I'll most likely be in Times Square freezing my butt off tonight... And if New York City Crumbles for any reason, you'll know why I stopped coming 'round. ;)

Have a good one Tom.

It's a shame there's no fireworks there tonight. I found the ones here at Sydney quite cathartic - a returning to normality if you will.

Stay safe in New York!!

Happy New Year everyone! And Tom, have fun in Times Square - I'll be looking for ya down there! :D

Yaaaay! I survived the crowds! ;) Police were everywhere, and there were tons of (I'm guessing they were bomb sniffing) dogs walking around smelling butts ;)
This is only the third time I've gone to Times Square, and it's probably going to be the last. I guess mass gathering of the dumbest people anywhere just doesn't appeal to me the way it used to. ;)

I did Rockfest `97 at the Texas Motor Speedway. They stopped counting at 400,000 people. They said the only larger gathering on Earth was for the Pope. I thought the Jews did a pretty good showing for their various holidays though ...

It was actually pretty interesting to watch all these people milling around trying to have fun while listening to music. The bands played from about 8am to 2 am the next day.

Anyway, I agree. No more large gatherings of stupid people for me. You just get included in the "large gathering of stupid people", and I'm not stupid (:
