Just wondering if anyone here has ever been to the recording of Top Gear?

My missus applied for tickets to be in the audience FOUR YEARS AGO (!) via "Applause Store" and we'd totally given up (ie- forgotten!) about it all until two tickets arrived by email just before Xmas for us to go to the recording of the show at Dunsfold Aerodrome on 30th January.

Pretty stoked about it all, not sure what to expect, but they say the doors to the "studio" will close at 2pm and re-open at 7pm.

Congrats:tup:

I've always wanted to go to one, unfortunately even if I had tickets there's a little body of water between here and there known as the Atlantic.

Nice one! ;p

Tell us what happens on that week of filming ;p

And take some snaps aswell ;)

Will do, but the tickets say strictly no photographs or filming allowed inside the studio, so it may just be outside shots... :scared:

I've also said this in another thread.

Make a sign saying 'Hello GTP, it's roflcoptor' and show it to the camera but make sure that Mr. Clarkson doesn't see it or he'll confront you and make you do a lap in the reasonable priced car.

Congrats on the tickets! As I can tell from the Finalgear forum, they take breaks during filming for the audience to go about and take photos with the hosts. 👍

This.

It might be edited out though as it is effectively advertising GTP and we all know how strict the BBC are on that.

I went about 2 years ago and it's a great experience.

It's quite a long day so prepare yourself for lots of standing around while they move from shot to shot. Also, wrap up warm and wear comfortable shoes. Also, don't forget to take your own food as there isn't really much to buy on site. There is a gift shop selling bits and bobs.

There are several breaks while the crew move the cameras and prepare the next area for filming. You'll get a chance to take photographs near the end once it starts to empty out. It sounds like they may have changed the setup slightly if your ticket says it closes at 2pm and re-opens at 7pm.

Pretty knackered, 340 mile round trip, only got back a while ago.

Here are some photos...!

Did you get a photo with either of the three?

Sadly no, just too many people there to fight through. However, I was stood right behind the "Star" interview bench when Jezza was interviewing Mick Fleetwood though, so maybe I got my ugly mug on the show. :scared:

It was an experience though! Great day! And that Lexus LFA... drool. 👍

Info from the episode, showing this Sunday:

"The brand new series of the world's most popular car show continues with an epic road trip across the western side of the United States in three front-engined supercars.

With Jeremy Clarkson in a Lexus LFA, Richard Hammond driving the new Dodge Viper and James May choosing the latest Aston Martin Vanquish a glorious soundtrack is guaranteed, as are furious arguments about which is best as the trio head from Las Vegas to Los Angeles and on to Palm Springs.

Along the way, the three presenters take in racing circuits, airborne attacks and a race against the police before making a break for the Mexican border with a terrifying penalty for the last car to make it.

Meanwhile, back in the studio, legendary Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood is the star in the Reasonably Priced Car."

What do they do in the studio that we don't see on TV?

A LOT of swearing... and I mean a lot!

The bit where they talk about the latest news... what we see on the show is heavily edited in terms of time and content. They were talking for about 20 minutes about stuff, a lot of which was, erm, "controversially" discussed. That obviously won't be aired.

And between the recording bits, they showed us some out-takes that never ever get shown, even on the DVD's they release for sale, they are just not suitable. Damn funny though. :sly:

Jezza also did quite a few of the "stingers" you sometimes see on cable channels when they show the repeats, you know, where he is just stood there and says "Welcome to Top Gear on Dave", etc.

Dolla billz yall.

👍👍👍

Did they air any footage?,did they do the news part or was it just the SIARPC?

They showed the pre-recorded segments of the show (ie- the footage shot in the USA) to us on the monitors in between doing the studio recordings (news and SIARPC), so we saw the whole of this Sunday's show by the end of the day.

Oh ,how was the episode then?

And glad you enjoyed your time ,sounded like too much of a hassle but some stunning cars you got to see and must've been an enjoyable experience .

One last thing ,how do they arrange who from the crowd appears at the front of the line and we will be looking for you during the show now

The episode is gonna be an awesome one, trust me on this. 👍

I spent a LOT of time drooling over the Lexus LFA. Shame we couldn't sit in it, but my god that car is beautiful. It's too expensive for what it is, but wow, what a car. Lovely metallic blue paint on the studio one.

And the studio... smaller than it looks on TV. They really make the most of the limited space, and wide-angle lenses help a lot.

One last thing ,how do they arrange who from the crowd appears at the front of the line and we will be looking for you during the show now

Bit of a contentious issue regarding who stands where. Me and my missus managed to get to the front when they were setting up for the SIARPC interview, only for us all to get moved six steps back while they fed in members of the Fleetwood Mac Fanclub...! What the hell. Nobody was expecting that. A lot of grumbling from people who felt they'd been shafted. 👎👎👎

So we had another couple standing directly in front of us, but I spent the whole time on tiptoes sticking my head inbetween them... maybe I got in shot for a second or two, we will have to see. I'll post a screengrab if I made it on there, lol. :scared:

Also stood at the rear of the Lexus LFA for some of the recording, so might have snook into shot there too.
