OK.

I’m having trouble burning audio CDs. The CDs seem to play fine on the computer, but when I try to play them in my car; it just says “ERROR” on my CD player.

Initially, I thought it was because I bought a bad batch of blank CDs. So, I went out and bought another brand of blank CDs. Still had the same problem.

So then, I thought it might be because of the software I was using. So, I updated my Nero…still nothing.

And just recently, I bought a NEW burner. This HAS to fix the problem, right?! Nope…still doesn’t work.

So, it’s probably the car CD player then…right?

But here’s the weird thing. I have some old CDs I made a while back. CDs I burned using the SAME batch of blank CDs, using the SAME software, using the SAME burner…and they all play just fine on the car CD player. So….what gives?!?

Does anyone have any idea what the hell is going on?? :ouch:

Are you burning as an Audio CD?

Also, are the files you are burning protected by DRM? If so, you cannot burn those files.

A music CD is not the same thing as a CD-ROM full of MP3 files. Some car players will read an MP3 CD-ROM, some won't.

If you can fit hours of MP3s onto your disc, then you're not burning the audio format, you're making a CD-ROM.

I don't know what software you're using but make sure you close the session and finalize the disc.

That is exactly what I was going to say...

CDBurnerXP - May want to try that - usually works wonders for burning stuff..

Haha, I'm pretty sure I'm burning audio CDs, guys. You don't have to worry about that.

How do you check whether or not it's protected?

Do you mean this?

If so, I went through all the songs I was trying to burn and they all say No for Protected..

I just tried that program out. It worked...at first. I was ecstatic, but then the songs started to skip and then stopped playing altogether... :ouch:

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. Any more ideas??

Do you have another CD player you can test out these CDs on?

Yeah, I tried playing them with my portable CD player...they're skipping on there, too.

I'm going to try and get some blank CDs from my neighbor tomorrow and see if that works. Maybe I just bought 2 bad batches of blank CDs?

Did you manage to carve a canyon into the disc?

If no, make sure the songs don't skip on your computer.

If they don't skip, get a new burner.

If they don't skip, get a new burner.

In his first post, he's on his second burner.

I'm thinking something in the PC, now. What's the computer? You running a Win95 486/66 or something? OK, I know it's [probably] not that severe, but I'm wondering if maybe the PC can't keep up with the drive speed. If your software allows, try limiting your burn speed to less than maximum and see how that goes. Even though they're 52x CDs in a 52x drive, try 16x, or even 4x, just to see if it comes out better. If they do, then from there play with the speed until they don't work again and back off to the next slower speed, use that from now on.

Not the case as he wasn't finalizing the disc at all.

Not the case as he wasn't finalizing the disc at all.

If it plays, but skips, then the player doesn't car if it's finalized. It sees the media. Burn quality is still a possible issue then.

Looks like I got it...

I bought a new batch of blank (Verbatim) CDs (I was using Maxell and Memorex before) and the CDs are playing beautifully. I guess my car CD player is a little picky.

Thanks a lot for all the help, guys! 👍

I have always had problems with Maxell or Memorex CDs, and I know many people have too. I always use Sony or Verbatim. Works perfectly every time.
