Has anyone else found that when using GT4 on PS3 the screen looks extremely blocky( by this i mean worse than PS1 graphics ) even with HD upscaling turned on ?

This is proabably similar for alot of PS2 games on PS3 but GT4 is the only one i tried

I tried it about a month after it was delivered (just before Thanksgiving '07) because I didn't have the system update upon installation. The Intro sequence is choppy along with the background music. Note: Any archived replays from PS2 memory cards do not work properly.

Yes. Yes - launch 60Gb consoles. No.

Nah, it also works with 80GB models, or at least the recent one that I got with the MGS4 bundle.

And OP, did you try turning on smoothing? Although I personally play GT4 in my PS2 when I want to fire it up, when I did play it on my PS3, I found turning on smoothing helped a little.

It wouldn't work at all on the 80MB I tried it on.

Have since tried it on a 60GB and it works but the graphics are spoiled by large blocky flashes approximately every 10 seconds or so. I hadn't thought of turning smoothing on. Will try that to see if it makes a difference.

In theory, there's 4 different PS3 types which will play PS2 games. In reality, it comes down to the two launch 60Gb consoles - trying to find the right 20/80Gb amongst the wrong ones is an Herculean task.

yes u can have gt4 in 1080i and have it work perfectly in your ps3 in ps3 settings turn ps2 smoothing off and set res to full screen then when the game is on go to options screen settings check 16x9 then at the bottom check 1080i and hit ok its that simple now for races you got 1080i high definition racing you can even have a ps3 in place of a ps2 for your lan games of gt4 and play high def from the ps3 as long as you have ethernet cables attached i tried the wireless setup and couldnt get it to work I have a ps3 w/ a120Gb HDD I yanked out of a 360 elite and the card reader works like a charm

Would I be correct in saying the PS3's with a chromed strip will play PS2 games, and those with a matt silver strip won't? As far as the UK is concerned, at least? I have a launch 60gb, as do a group of my friends who went threes on a console, but my brother has a 40gb (which as far as I know is the first non-PS2 compatible PS3 released here), and apart from the lack of two USB ports, the card readers and a LOT of heat, the only other (and most obvious) clue to tell our PS3's apart is the silver strip; Mine is chromed, his is not.

As far as I was aware there was only ever the 60gb then 40gb released here, I've never seen or heard of anyone with anything different, except for those with DIY HDD upgrades of course, and in America I thought there were the 20, 60 and 80gb that play PS2 games, then the 40 and 80gb that don't, surely the USB ports and silver strip differences are the same?

Therefore, the clue should be whether or not your PS3 has a shiny silver strip or not... Of course, this is just me speculating from my experience of UK consoles so I don't really know; just trying to help (before anyone jumps down my throat for it!)

Sony has really confused people with its different PS3 models, I know i got the launch 60GB cus its the only one i knew of that could do everything sony stated.

It's an interesting question - but I don't know of any non-launch-60Gb PS3s to find out if they've got the chrome strip or not.

And we got the non-PS2 80Gb console too, which I believe has the chrome strip (but couldn't tell you for sure)

ya the launch ps3 60G has the chrome strip and the flap opens too show card readers and also it has 4 USB openings , oposed too the new ps3s that have a gray strip , 2 usb openings and no card readers

I'm pretty sure that quite a few NTSC-US consoles have the features, but Famine is stating the UK/PAL console variations...

I live in the UK and when I finally had the money for a PS3, the 60GB had stopped being sold and the 80GB (non-compatible - I just wanted more hdd space) was not yet released... So unfortunately I only have a 40GB PS3 (I am still very glad I have a PS3 as the 40GB is better than nothing at all). I plan on upgrading the internal harddrive to have more space...

I also have a 40gb, does the job, i already have a media centre computer, HDD recorder and ps2, I don't need all that crap in my ps3.

It's just useful to have PS2 support so you don't have to switch between consoles all the time... That's the biggest reason why I havn't played GT4 much since getting a PS3 console...

I just wish there was some sort of USB device that could be plugged in to allow non-backwards-compatible systems to run and play PS2 games...
