Hey guys.

My HDD in my old laptop took a dump according to my pc its something called a short DST failure.
And it gave me a a failure and product id if anyone is interested in seeing that?
anyway i was told at a pc store that the repair i wanna do is something called "taking a picture of the old hard drive" So that i can install a new HDD with all the data from my old HDD and have it boot up like nothing ever happend.
But im having trouble finding info on how to do this which is why im here.
I'll be using a second pc with a hard drive enclosure to do the work.

Will this work with HDD to HDD though?
The second method given in the article @nowcontrol cited will work with any two drives provided the drive cloned to has sufficient capacity. But get it direct from the publisher; avoid cnet like the plague. Unless you like a machine swimming in adware.

Just note, when cloning you can clone problems as well.

Including things like the bad sector file.
So after a clone use the chkdsk /r /f /b command to rescan the whole disk and reset any the bad sectors file
