I am after a good 5.1 or even 7.1 headset.

I will be watching bluray's and playing games on my beast PC, so I would like to get some headphones as I do not have the room for a 5.1 speaker system and since I we have bare floorboards in this house I do not want the sub to send vibrations throughout the whole house.

I am tossing up between the Corsair Vengeance 1500 or the Turtle Beach Ear Force Z6A

I am leaning towards the Turtle Beach ones due to them having the 3.5mm jacks and the Corsair having USB which I am not a fan of USB headsets since you need to install the software the comes with it since the USB has a built in dedicated sound card.

Both are within my price point.

I can't upload any info about them since I am shaped and my stupid ISP seems to be dropping packets on me.

From previous experiences, and multiple of my friends experiences, I would heavily avoid Turtle Beach products. Purely because they break very easily. They do offer a replacement of your broken headset, if still under warranty, but after my friends and I going through a combined 5-6 PX21's we decided that Turtle Beach products are 🤬. (Just my 2 cents though)

Do you have access to an optical digital port? This would widen your choices and offer you a lot of options.

I'd agree with the fragility, I have to keep my pair (second pair) taped in several places to keep weak points from breaking. But for the price of them and the quality of sound, they are unmatched. The cautionary tape on a few of the swivels is recommended though.

I bought the PX-3s with a DSS2 - never looked back. I wanted a wireless 7.1 headset that'd work with PC and PS3, this was about the only way to go.

Theoretically the PX-5s are better, but they aren't really, because they don't have rechargable batteries, and have a tougher time working with the PC (I read).

Anything else if you want it just for PC, all my friends have the Z6As (of course they aren't wireless), and they are great, especially since you can find them now at sub $100 or something, one of them got his for like $6X bucks I believe (maybe $8X actually, anyway).

*re-reads OP* Yeah of those Z6A for sure - any other contenders?

Well I am after ones that suit my PCs theme as well, so i got red of ones that were red and black.

Which headphones have optical TOSLINK?
My beast has a SPDIF toslink port

My DSS2s have TOSLINK/Digital optical actually, then it transfers & converts it from 7.1 from my PS3 to virtual 7.1 for my PX3s,I think the Z6As are strictly 3.5mm but the principle should be the same (however if doing this there's no point getting a real 5.1 headset since it'll be virtual 7.1 the headphone speakers won't actually be utilised individually)

If you do not have a discrete sound card then you will not get DD 5.1/7.1 encoding from games. Onboard sound only supplies DD from movies; not games.

That said I agree with the other posters that stated Turtle Beach products are crap. The audio quality is great, but unfortunately the build quality is sacrificed to cut costs. I have owned two pairs of TB's and both broke on me in a few months time. I jumped ship and haven't looked back.

I am currently using Sharkoon X-Tatic 5.1 headphones and they are outstanding. Positional information from sound cues is spot on regardless of platform.

I picked mine up from Amazon for $150 with a 3 year spill/damage warranty about a year ago. Still going strong.

I highly suggest them.

Don't limit your accessories to a color scheme. You will never be able to have great products that are only red/black. You're severely limiting your choices by doing this. For a PC build that's fine; in fact that is what I did. But, after a while I said screw it my accessories can be any color.

My PC theme is red/black, my keyboard and mouse are blue, and the Sharkoon is green. Oh well....

Have you considered the Sony Official 7.1 Wireless headset? Its compatible with PC as well. I picked one up not too long ago for 90$.

I'd recommend the Tritton AX 720. Bit expensive but you have the choice of USB and Blue/Green cable. It also has a decoder box allowing for 7.1 surround sound and voice recording options

Audio Technica AD700/AD900.

Cause a good 5.1/7.1 headset doesn't exist.

Oooof. :scared:

Im going to have to disagree! The Tritton AX Pro's are fantastic! Their only competition is the Astro A40 headset, which comes close, but is lacking bass. The AX Pro's are astounding. Long cable, dual mix-amp so two headsets can use one connection, TRUE 5.1 Surround Sound with the ability to change each section [Front, Rear, Centre and Sub] easily. No fiddly circle knobs like on the A40's.

But yes, there are a lot of headsets claiming to have 7.1 surround, when realistically, it's only virtual.

It's also compatible with PC, Xbox and Ps3. So is the microphone.

The only fall is the price. But its a worth while investment.

I have A40's,for gaming they are by far the best. But yes, they are lacking bass, they have a little bass but not enough.Tritton's are excellent!

This is one of those situations where getting everything is going to cost A LOT. You may have to sacrifice one thing whether it be quality of build or whatever to not spend a fair chunk of money :)

But In my opinion tritons are a safe buy.
