Guys...is there a height requirememnt for IRL etc? i am 6'6" and I have been looking into the new league, currently I have been in gt cups...I am curious...as i am seriously debating switching classes. At 6'6" my concern is the ase of entering the car, the aspect of the moving parts around me and the nose area...in case I were to crash...where would my legs go?

Justin Wilson is 6'4", and I believe Mark Webber is either 6'1" or 6'2". They are both F1 drivers.

Im not sure about the other series, but with F1 the main concern of the teams is getting your helmet to fit under the roll bar (not sure what its called in formula car, protects your head in a rollover).

I think in the IRL there may be taller drivers, but 6'6" is pretty tall. It also depends if you are tall in your legs or torso.

F1's gotten a lot better in this regard with the mandated minimum cockpit sizes - I don't know if the same rules apply in CART/IRL - I remember CART was seen as a refuge for taller drivers in the early '90s before the changes in cockpit size came through, so one would assume they're okay.

The main issue with height isn't fitting under the rollbar, but under the airbox intake - if the driver's head interferes with the airflow into there it can affect the engine (in naturally aspirated cars, that is - the turbo cars don't take air in there so run a simple roll hoop).

We've seen a lot of detail work in F1 in this regard - compare the airboxes of the cars of today to when the cars went naturally aspirated in 1989.
