Never have quite figured out how these pile-ups occur. Do people really think it'll be fine to go barreling through a sand storm or fog bank at highway speed? Is it not common sense to slow down or come to a stop in such a situation? I realize the first people who got there probably did that, and that's what caused the people behind them to crash. But why didn't those people behind them think, "Oh look, I can clearly see a giant sand storm blowing across the road 5 miles ahead of me and I bet the people who are there now may be stopped so I should probably slow down."

It's been my observation that most folks only watch a second or so in front of their car. I base that on watching people "in a hurry" in traffic. The guy behind me changes lanes to overtake me because the lane beside me is clear, but he didn't see the plainly visible slow car just ahead of that clear space. Now his way back into the better lane is blocked by traffic that moved into the space he vacated.

All you have to do is look past your own hood, but nobody does it.

There is an incredibly stupid assumption that if you can't see it, it's not gonna hurt you.

Nobody should live their lives in fear:odd:

The very first scene in that clip makes it look like Judgement Day. All of those burned out abandoned cars with a fence burning in foreground. It definitely feels apocolyptic.

It's the same story over here, especially lately. Nobody has any common sense and nobody looks anywhere but the front of their car. It's especially bad when it snows, people don't have the intelligence to adapt to the conditions. If they revoked the licenses of a lot of these people then I bet the amount of accidents on the road would drop dramatically!

A lot of our congestion problems would be fixed as well!

Looking several cars ahead (which I do for all bends and valleys today) probably saved my car today. Saw that the 70 mph traffic was slowing ahead so I started slowing early, so when everybody had to panic stop around me I was already going only 50 or so. Too bad nobody else did because the Hyundai Sonata that used to be behind me didn't stop until it's nose was even with mine on the shoulder (Probably partly due to all the dirt over there).

People suck at driving pure and simple. Drivers ed needs to test one's reflexes, braking, and cornering along with the basics such as parking, on ramps, etc.
