Ok the other day I reset the refresh rate of my monitor coz it was refreshing too much.
All was fine until last night and now it's just refreshing nearly every 10 seconds and I got black down the side of my screen and it's constantly refreshing and I'll put something through it if I can't get it to stop :banghead:

Now for some strange reason when I go into the properties to change the refresh rate back I can't find it  :banghead: :irked:

Try unclicking the box that says "hide refresh rates that this monitor cannot support." My monitor is like this. It says it only supports 60 hz refresh rate when it can support up to 85 hz. Does that help any? Its under "Right click on desktop>Properties>Settings>Advanced>Monitor>Uncheck hide modes this monitor cannot display". Or you can go to Start>Control panels>Display and do the same thing.

No it's set to default monitor and I have 3 options
1. Monitor is energy star compliant
2.automatically detect plug and play
3.reset display on suspend/resume

I did manage to get the refresh rate option sback again yesterday, but it only offered me the adapter default or optimal ...now it's gone again , I've tried loads of things >driver update > removed the monitor and the graphics card from device manager ..still nothing, except a blinking screen that has a black border 1/2 inch thick around it :banghead:

You probably had your refresh rate too high and wrecked your monitor. You must be in the wrong area lotus. Follow Matrixhasu 77's instructions exactly.

Right click on desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor. Then notice the Hide modes that this monitor can not display option, make sure it is checked.

I run my monitor at 85hz. It can run at 120hz though with the Hide modes that this monitor can not display option unchecked.

I was in the right area ;)

Anyway all is working now and the monitor is safe from harm :)

Thanks for the help :)

Damn.... My monitor is at 75hz, and the highest res it supports is 1024x768, if anything is higher, it just blacks out....

Well most people can't read fonts at anything higher than 1024x768. At least I can't. My monitor is the same way. Of course, I can't find drivers for it because its so old.
