help! car decisions!

well...my mom is going ot get a new car and right now she is looking at the Fx35....do you guys know any other good Suvs aroudn a 35k price range? help is needed...

nothing wrong with a fx, i like em. infact, i think its the best looking "suv" although its just a crossover

its not a true suv, but who really needs one?

h2's start at 52k

4 runners are good, but the new gen is ugly.

dont suppose a cvt 4wd murano will do eh?

The SUV that fits your preference, is the Subaru Forester 2.5 XT. She'll have fun with it and it can outperform any SUV in the $35K range with $10K less (13.8 1/4 mi stock).

And please, do not ever get an H2. FX35 is fine, or the cheaper sibling the Nissan Murano 3.5 SE.

I like the Forester too, but it dont run 13.8 in the 1/4. That is impossible with a 210hp engine. I have no idea where you got the idea that it runs 13.8 but it dont. Actually its quite slow. The FX45 will destory it. More Hp/Torque and its a V8. The FX45 with 315hp runs 15.0S stock thats nothing compare to the 13.8 of the 2.5 XT...

Forester

Type Horizontally opposed 4-cylinder intercooled turbo with die cast aluminum-alloy block and heads and Active Valve Control System (AVCS) variable valve timing.
Displacement 2.5 liters (150 cubic inches)
Horsepower 210 @ 5600 rpm
Torque (lb.-ft.) 235 @ 3600 rpm

Armanda

Armada's advanced engine has the power to reach your destination. The kind of power you get from a 305-hp 5.6-L DOHC V8 engine with huge displacement and amazing acceleration, as well as the brute force of low-rev torque. And an independent rear suspension that enables a smoother ride, so you can save the bouncing for the river rafting.

This is the very nice Armada it cost 34K for a SE 4X4 the best is a LX which cost 40K if i remember right. Consider this car its great for its price.

Our forester highest power out put is 210.. the STi verison in Japan has 265ps or 261hp. No way can it run 13.8s I dont know if you mistyped and aim for 16.8 or what but no way in hell can it run faster than a 350z (287hp) and its ligher than the SUV too.

Agreed, it's no 13.8. BUT it's also nowhere near 210bhp. I think they get dynoed stock at around 240bhp, but Vanishing Boy will be able to back me up. The theory on that was to save face for the WRX, the 'performance sedan' of the crop, they had to rate the 'hot SUV' a bit low. The torque rating probably still sticks, and it's where the horsepower discrepancy becomes obvious - no Subaru on the market has a difference in torque and horsepower of more than ten (in fact, only one model has a difference of more than two, the WRX); the Forester and Baja turbos have a difference of 25, which, though certainly possible, seems unlikely due to Subaru's past consistency.

the best is a LX which cost 40K if i remember right.

LE; it starts at $37800 for the 2WD and goes to $40600 (base) for the 4WD.

Oh, well if thats true the Forester is still no where near the 13.8. Im guessing somewhere around high 15s-low 16s. Well that make sense why would they rate the SUV 240bhp when the WRX only has 227bhp.

Yeah.. its LE, I didnt look at nissan page so i thought it was the LX but yeah. I was talking about the 4WD model LE starts at 40K. I would think that the SE 4wd is better because well its cheaper.

Consider:

BMW X5 (?) & X3
Benz ML350 (?)
Volvo XC90
Volkswagen Toureg
Toyota 4Runner & Highlander
Honda Pilot

Basically, everyone calls me a walking car guide...

I'd defenitely pick the Touareg... gorgeous inside and outside, roadholding is in on par with an X5 and it has serious offroad capabilities (this is probably not a good point here, still... take a look inside, I was really impressed)

I agree, touareg 👍 👍

Everybody parrots all the magazines by saying that the Touareg is the best and the coolest and blah blah. It's a **** car with a **** engine and **** spec. Magazines are so wrapped up in VW's image they would've called the Chevrolet Tracker the best small SUV if it had a VW badge.

whats wrong with it?? my uncle has one, great handling, great off road performance, very nice interior , comfortable, looks good...

I'm curious what you have to say is so wrong with it....have you even ever driven it??

and its not just a few car mags that say that, its tones of car EXPERTS....who I would trust alot more than you making comments like that.

I'm not "parroting" any article.... I actually have been in one, I am not really the SUV type, but this one almost convinced me... And I'd rather trust any auto magazine review over a comment like this on an internet forum... My favorite auto reporter usually hates VW and SUVs for many reasons, but praised this one.

FX35 looks very good too, but at 35000$ it is RWD and it's not very roomy inside, or as luxurious as the VW.

It depends on your priorities...

Standard leather seats? No - those are $2200 extra. 6-CD player? No, not even available as an option. Power seats? Optional. High-intensity head-lights? $750. Power output (220bhp) is a class low (Merc has 232bhp, Lexus has 225, Infiniti has 280, GMC and Buick have 275, Jeep has 235, Acura has 265) and so is engine size (VW's 3.2L to Merc's 3.7, Lexus's 3.3, Jeep's 4.7, GMC and Buick's 4.2, and Acura and Infiniti's 3.5).

Price, then, ought to be lower than the other members of its class but of course it isn't. VW starts at $34900, the Lexus with several more features starts at $35000, the GMC Envoy starts at $31300, the Land Rover Discovery starts at $34300, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 starts at $34900, and the other cars are so far out of VW's range on standard spec that you'd have to add a package to the Touareg to make a spec comparison fair.

Two V6's and a V8.

It's my job too.

One thing I notice with Volkswagen products more than any other brand is that auto mags are so wrapped up in the 'moving out of where we are' image that they forget total objectivity. Yes, the Volkswagen has nice touches, but magazines don't pay for the cars. People pay, and they tend to forsake certain 'total quality' items for spec, or a lower purchase price.
