The very key in New York is: brake on time, then accelerate early. Especially with such a "soft" car, try to not extend the acceleration zones as far as it'll go - the brakes are just too weak for that. Instead, brake on time, then try to get the steering right for the bend and floor the car as early as possible, ideally before you hit the apex of every turn.
If I remember correctly, after some practice I got the white Mustang in or just after the 1st right-hander, the blue Plymouth after the double-left and the Charger braking into the circle with the above technique.
Getting the speed out of the bends and onto the straights is the key to victory. Don't worry if you think you braked a tad too early. Get the car aligned properly for the bend, then carry all the speed through it.
