Okay, first off, this is my first wheel and it is not a G25. I plan on buying a G27 the day it's released. I have a feeling we might see GT5 before the year's end.
I got the itch so I went and bought an MS racing wheel for my 360 just to hold me over. Luckily less than half the price of the G27 (maybe half the wheel too?). It's fun, but after hours of play I still cannot get anywhere close to my controller lap times. This is frustrating since I call myself a hardcore sim lover and I don't even use a wheel and have been playing GT since day one. I've never heard anyone complain about their DFP or G25.
Dirt 2, PGR4, Forza 2, & Grid are all games I've tried.
My real question, is the logitech G wheel all it's supposed to be? Are you guys confident using it? How does it affect your lap times? Please, post your impressions. I want this wheel, but I don't want a $300 mistake either.

If I were you I would buy the G25 over the G27 but that's my personal opinion. The G27 lacks sequential mode and is basically the same thing (I also think the G25 looks better).

Personally, I love my G25 and particularly in GT5p, I get better lap times using the wheel over the controller because of the much more controllable steering inputs and finesse. A G25 is by no means a mistake, once you know how to tame a beast in GT5 with a G25 you wont want to go back. Especially if you like drifting, it can be VERY addictive.

Not to mention the support for PC games if you are into that aswell, rFactor with its many mods is very addictive, GTR2, GT Legends, Live for Speed etc...

Like yourself I've been a huge fan of the Gran Turismo series since the early days of GT1 & also used the pad up until Gran Turismo 4, when I decided it was time to man up & get myself a wheel. The first thing I noticed, (apart from enjoying myself infinitely more) was my lap times taking a nosedive, so there's no doubt about it, there's a learning curve to using a wheel. The learning curve won't be a problem though, because with the strong force feedback & 900* rotation, you'll feel much more immersed in the game & simply be having a lot more fun. I had been enjoying myself so much that a couple of months ago I splashed out & got myself a Playseat Evolution & haven't regreted it for one second. I had been using a Logitech Driving Force Pro wheel, but recently got myself a G25 (due to be delivered today, can't wait), I had debated getting a G27, but like the chap above ^^ didn't feel it justified the extra expense. If you do decide to get yourself a G25 or a G27, I'm sure that you won't regret i!

Your G25 is coming in today, and you already have a playseat evolution. My Playseat is coming in a couple days and I already have a G25 lol. I agree though there is a learning curve, but you have fun in the process, once you learn, you find yourself driving alot better than on a controller.

And the Microsoft wheel is half the money, but not half the wheel! The G25/27 is way way better.

If you like cars and racing games, a wheel (and decent/solid setup) will make it much more enjoyable!

Good luck with the G27!

All the games you mention is games optimized for gamepads not wheels! That is one problem.

The other is the MS FFB wheel in itself. You will have much better luck with the G27 but to make full use of it you need to run the PC simulations not console games like Forza or Gran Tourismo or the ones you mentioned. It seems to be very hard to offer good controls for both gamepad and wheel simultaneously. And Gamepad is always going to be the number one controller for the console racers. That mentioned I have no big problems with wheel in Forza 2 or GT 5 Prologue for example I am just stating that their wheel support isn´t perfect like on most PC sims I run. In Forza 2 I do identical lap times but I am more accustomed to wheel then gamepad so that would indicate a gamepad is probably faster I would assume.

It takes time to build skill so that is your third problem. You can´t expect after using gamepad for so long to instantly be fast with a wheel. Even if you use wheels in your real cars you seldom push them as hard do you :D

As for G25 versus G27. Sure you loose sequential but you can´t use the sequential shifter on the G25 either! So you aren´t loosing anything. I tended to press down on it so could never get 100 % shifting with it. There is no feel at all in the sequential or the H-shifter either so it´s not really a loss. The G27 have more buttons on the wheel. Still a lowly 6 but better then two certainly. It´s quiter and have a thicker grip then the G25. And even if it´s still reported flimsy a slightly more robust H-shifter. Unless the G25 is a lot cheaper I would go for the G27 myself. Now I don´t use those I sold the G25 for my better Fanatec wheels but they are a bit more but worth every penny for me.
