Help! I got beaten by a Samba bus

I tried the 1 hour Alsace mission for cars before 1979. I used a tuned 1971 240 ZG, 2x lightened etc 449 pp.
14th place. I am having no trouble so far with the 1 hour mission races, so what am I doing wrong? Any advice on suitable cars and tunes?

i cheesed it using a chaparral 2j completely detuned, plus ballast, then put the full racing transmission on it and make it go 120 mph or so.

Should be easy with a one stopper, the Samba bus isn't that fuel efficient.

I did this race with my 917K detuned, ballasted and a topspeed of ~170kph Won by over a minute.

Tried it with a Trans Am....what a **** show....Going to figure out what my next choice should be.

There is a ‘pp glitch’ with the chaparral 2j to get it well under the PP. Feels like you’re on an ice rink at times but was two laps ahead of 2nd place by the finish. Search up trophy tom YouTube if you want to do it this way.
