This has been on my mind for a month or so and I feel this is the forum that will find me the answer.

My granddad passed away in 2003, and the last car he owned
was a Honda with a beautiful gold livery/paint. I can picture it in my mind but the trouble is I have no idea what the model name is.

It resembled a Land Rover or a kind of SUV/Jeep-thingy.
I would guess the model year was between 2000-2002, he bought it brand new and unfortunately didn't get to have it for long.

I tried asking mom, she didn't have a clue.
Tried google & wikipedia but still came up short.

Any ideas?

Honda Passport?

Honda Passport?
Thank you, it might have been. But in my memory the headlights were different and the car overall felt like it had more sharp edges and a more 'box-y' look.
The Passport looks very streamlined with nice round edges.

It's so long ago now and I only saw it one or two times. Memory fails me, maybe it was the Passport.

Long shot, but Honda rebadged the first Land Rover Discovery and sold it in Japan from 1993 to 1998. It was called the Crossroad.

Doesn't fit your timeline or location, though.

Honda similarly sold the Isuzu Trooper as an Acura, and it went out of production around then:

It also sold terribly and isn't frequently mentioned, so that might be why you couldn't find it. It was only sold in America, though. In Europe it was badged as an Opel/Vauxhall instead.

Are you sure it was a Honda?
It could have be a Hyundai? ( they both have a the H logo, some people mix them up ) They had boxly SUV in the early 2000's called the Galloper.

Hyundai's logo is a Italic H in a oval
Honda's logo is a normal H in a square

But without a pic from the OP it is harder to what it is.
