Help making borders

Hey guys. I have been here for a bit and since TT came out, ive gotten more into the photomode. and in doing so am starting to post pics here.

i ask writing for help on how to make a good border around my pic. it makes the pics look better and allows for a better presentation. and also, the easiest way to insert a little sig into the corner of a pic to establish it as my pic.

i have PS CS2, Imageready and paint. i can utilize them all equally. i appriciate your help.

Double click on the photo layer in the layers window. Play around with the Stroke options, ensuring that the stroke is "Center" or "Inside" not "Outside".

I do it different from most people, I just open the image in Photoshop, and expand the canvas around the picture. This leaves white space outside the picture. If you want it to be another color, just get out the paint bucket and fill in the color.

My border is usually black with a white strip inside
Here is how I do ...

- create a new layer
- Ctrl-A (select all)
- edit> stroke (black, 20px, center)
- Ctrl + click on the working layer
- select > inverse
- edit> stroke (white, 2px, center)
- Ctrl-D (to deselect for better viewing)

I recorded this procedure in action
so make my standard border with just one click :)

I make the canvas 20px bigger in each direction (600x800px ---> 640x840px).
Then select all, press M, right-click, stroke, 1px inner black.

I can do that in about half a second these days.
