Help Me Decide On A Budget Wheel

It's been years since I last played GT - or any racing sim, precisely when I was still a student. After a few years of working around the clock trying to set up a life for myself, I feel like I am finding much more free time on my hands. With the launch of GT Sport I feel the monkey on my shoulders, I find myself watching online races on YT to get my fix.

Now, on to the main question, I have been researching good entry wheels with a reasonable price and have come up with these:
Logitech G29
T150RS Pro
T300 RS

I used to have a DFGT and I loved it, so I'm leaning towards the Logitech, still, if either of the Thrustmasters are superior I will go for one of them.

I’m a former DFGT and G29 owner and wholeheartedly like the G29 a lot... but if you want to upgrade down the road it’s better to invest in Thrustmaster. You can upgrade the wheel, shifter, pedals etc. and of course the servobase itself. Logitech was once king (G27 most widely praised wheel ever) , but some idiot somehow decided to pull out the wheel market. So there is no future for the G29 in support or even ecosystem.

Get a t300 but with the T3PA pedals and not the standard pedals. These are not an upgrade to the DFGT pedals.

T300 RS is much better but reliability is a problem with this wheel.
Reliability is a big concern for me, since I don't have time to deal with customer support and returns.
I have a T300 RS and been using it for over a year now usually about 3 hours a day and no problems at all.
I think I will be playing around the same amount, no more than two hours a day, perhaps longer during the weekends.

If I am going to spend that much, I could pick up the T300RS GT edition for a lower price I believe. I can pick up the G29 for 250 EUR, the T150 RS Pro (it comes with the T3PA pedals) for 210 EUR while the T300 RS GT goes for 350 EUR.
Regarding the upgrade, I was thinking I would start with a cheaper option and then after a while I could just discard it and go for a more high-end product like a Fanatec.

T300gt is a good deal. But could be risky? Try buying of a retailer with great warranty (free shipping and pick up service in case of RMA, new product with no questions asked) you pay a little more but you get much more in return when something fails. I often buy from a online retailer that delivers the next day, 24/7 online and phone support, and when something fails within warranty (2 years) they send you a new product immediately and they pick up the faulty product when it is delivered and even afterwards.

To each her own. Fanatec is having issues with compatibility (should be resolved by end of year). So I chose thrustmaster but definately liking the upgrade options in the thrustmaster ecosystem. Also like the pricing a bit better. But maybe will move to fanatec down the line.

The theory is the belt drive of the Thrustmasters is better than the gear drive of the Logitech but if you liked the DFGT the G29 won't pose any problems on this point.

While the Logitechs may not be perfect, they do appear to be more reliable than the Thrustmasters and have a decent set of pedals.

I owned both. But in 2017 I can’t recommend them anymore. The primary reason is future support from Logitech. Logitech has pulled out the wheel market/console market so can’t recommend them anymore.

Can’t really understand why , because the dfgt, g27 and still g29 sold very well. Don’t expect good support from Logitech or developers for the g29 in 2018/2019 and onwards.

I'd suggest the T300 over the G29 any day! The T150 doesn't have enough torque to snap back to centre quickly so if you crash out you'll lose a ton of time just trying to spin the car around again. The T300 has some reliability issues but hands down it's your best option to enjoy GT Sport the way Polyphony intended. Some G29 users are reporting very weak force feedback in GT Sport.

I upgraded from the T150 Pro to the T-GT and boy was I missing out! I'm not a fan of the helical gearing system on the T150 and the G29. GT Sport is the ultimate driving simulator so having the most realistic setup will only add to the immersion! Don't forget to build yourself a proper rig if you want the best experience!

That does it then, no way I'm going for the Logitech knowing this.

It was claimed that Logitech pulled out of the console market in 2013, in fact they stopped selling any gaming stuff, no matter what device (PC/Playstation/Xbox). It was in part (IIRC) to do with the issues around compatibility with PS4s which was a bit of a spat between wheel makers and Sony.

Not long after they released the G29 to replace the G27.

In July they bought Astro for $85m (they make gaming headsets), so it would be very surprising that they would be pulling out of the market and I can find no articles saying they are pulling out.

The article
It’s a strategic move to get a jumpstart on the console market, which Logitech has generally ignored (they’re very PC focused).

Unless anyone can actually prove otherwise, Logitech at this point in time are not pulling out of the console market.

I remembered it quite clearly.

I guess this year they decided to make a return. But I’m not sure they are going back in the wheelmarket. They lost a lot of momentum. But the wheel is not weak as iamjomu claimed its powerful enough at approx. 2.2nm torque. But like I said you have to look past 2017.

I haven't tried the T300RS, but I own a T150 with the T3PA Pro pedal set and I'm very happy with it.
I would recommend the T150 over the G29 without hesitation, and I used to be a huge fan of the
DFGT, G25, G27 and all Logitech products. The G29 in my humble opinion is not an upgrade over the G27.
I actually preferred the G27, and wound up selling my G29 to get the T150 setup.

Sometimes I regret not buying the T300RS, but having read so many horror stories I was concerned with it's
reliability. I've owned the T150 for over a year now and have had zero issues. Coming from Logitech wheels, the force feedback and smoothness of the T150 is a major upgrade over the DFGT/G27/29. Just my two cents.

That article is nearly five years old, at that point the G29 hadn't even been released. As I said they decided they were going to leave and then backtracked and released the G29.

Your statement that Logitech are going to leave the gaming industry is incorrect.

It “was” correct. They left. You can Google multiple resources. The g29 was probably in development when they announced it. But they backtracked only recently. But it doesn’t mean they will return to the wheel market.

The more I read the customer reviews and the horror stories here about the TM, the more hesitant I am to spend money on one.

T300 is a true pile of garbage. My G27 worked from the day bought it till the day I sold it, and all of the hundreds of hours between. My Thrustmaster burnt itself up within a few dozen hours. I threw it on the ground and it's now a fishing weight, just the way it was designed to be used. Total garbage. I don't believe the G29 needs any support, it just works all the time, perfectly. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but out of the box, the G29 will work solidly with GT Sport? I'm looking to buy on Amazon tonight.

It’s fully supported.

Right ?!
Half the regular price AND with the shifter for free... Hard to beat.

Saving $250 right there !

I am a happy camper even if i really dont play anymore And despite already having a dfgt

With being so busy and having online a handful of hours to play a week I was happy with this bundle. Couldn't justify taking the next step up for the amount I play. I'm sure I will be more than happy upgrading from my Thrustmaster T80.
