Help me out??

I'm not to sure where this should be so if a mod could move it to the right place :)

I need some help with my driving skills. Simply put, I am horrible. I always run 4-5 sec slower than the online records for various tracks. I'm not to sure what the problem is though I want to post the replay data so maybe a nice soul can watch a replay of one of my time trials to help me sort things out.

This attachment is of me driving a stock 111R around the Suzuka East course.
I ran a 1:00.06. No driving aids and its on professional.

If a kind soul could watch this and help me out I would love it.

PS: I am to poor to afford a Capture card or a Camcorder to put this on youtube.

How long have you been playing GTP? do you use a pad or a wheel?

I always RUN 4-5 seconds behind the #1 spots after about 10 laps of Practice...

#1
The key is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Download ghosts from #5-10 spots. Fallow their lead, Don't try to race them, just fallow on what they do, that way you have way more to improve over them.

It's good that you have all AIDS off. And that you are on PRO settings. It's always the fastest way to become a pro at this game.

#2
Use a wheel. There are some players with PADS that manage to get to #1 spots, but usually always beaten by users with WHEELS.
A wheel is a great investment. It will make the car more stable during turns, more precise, as well better BRAKE and GAS sensitivity. Did I mention it adds 50% of more simulation to the game and FUN? heh

Well only thing with the wheel is that it's STEEP learning curve to get handle of it and it will take you few weeks again just to be 4-5 seconds behind with the wheel. But Practice and in some time I hope I'll see you in top 10 spot!

Ive been playing for like 1 month, and I use a pad.

A pad vs wheel will give you them differences, practise makes perfect i am roughly 2-5 seconds a lap quicker now than i was when i first started playing GTP, the advice in the post above is good ^^^^ try it 👍

Ahs
Don't forget to take a brake every now and then from the game. Sometimes when I'm tired I tend to mess up a lot. Then after a brake with fresh head, I tend to always push the car bit more without any crashes

the advice in the post above is good ^^^^ try it 👍

:dopey: YEY my first good advice since 2007!

I watched your replay, "President Elect" :).
I think all the above advise is good.
It looks like you are trying to follow the correct racing line, you just need more practice.
I haven't used a six axis since gt2, but I do remember how hard it could be to apply the controls smoothly. I'd often apply too much throttle, brake or steering.
Nox's advise to take a break is true. After 10-20 laps, if I'm not improving or I'm getting worse, I take a break. You'll find that when you come back, within a few laps you are at or better than your best time.
If you want to learn more on actual driving skills, follow the link in my sig.
Good luck and have fun :)

Thanks a lot for all of the advise guys. I am saving up for that wheel with the H-Gate shifter. I forget the name at the moment. I have also find that I try TOO hard when I'm tired.

G25? i play better when drunk

i have nothing to add. And the top time’s in the time trail raking are very good lap times but that doesn’t mean that they are good racers. There is a different between putting in great lap times and being a good racer. Damon Hill is a good example. Sorry if I hurt any Brit’s. :sly:

good all Steve

Oohh 1 more thing.

Gran Turismo is a very intense game. Because of the excitement during the races you will notice that your muscles will be very tense. Try to take a relax position the moment you’re on a straight. And focus the moment your braking point arrives. Especially when you’re using a wheel.

Roomboter brings up a good point, there is a vast difference between time trials and race times, go online and try it out see how you do, hey whats wrong with Damon lol

thanks Steve

he's a Brtit  serious he was a horrible and boring racer first of all horrible.

Lewis is a Brit :P

also not a lewis fan :sly: sorry mate.

Despite his championship title, respect for him

Im more of a Montoya Massa Irving fan. Guys with flair charisma and an attitude. Lewis comes close, but the wrong attitude.

Another way to become faster is to run with the fast guys.Get on a chat system,be it voice or type, and arange some "practice time" with someone. They could follow you during a race and see where you need help. You could then follow them and see what line, braking points they are using and try to copie them. This,I feel, works better than using a ghost as you get instant feedback from someone. Also you can use the tune system once you get up into the pro races.A properly tuned car can make a huge difference in your lap times.:)

Boring? Horrible? Psch, wheres my ignore button? :P
People write off Hill too easily, if he wasn't a good racer, please explain to me how he managed to get a Arrows to an almost win at Hungary 1997? Something which no-one else ever managed to do.

What about Nigel Mansell? Sterling Moss? Graham Hill? Jackie Stewart? Jim Clark? James Hunt?

Does sho1m mean Stockholm? If so, great with another swede! 👍

And on your problem, as many have said already in numerous of threads. Just practise, and then practise some more. Perhaps watch onboard racing videos on youtube or something?

What a race that was, Hill in front all the way and a stupid bit of rubber allowed Villenuve to take him on the last lap.
When I try to unzip the attached file I get an "invalid" error. Has anybody else tried it?

Same here?

I didn't watch your replay, and I don't know if my advice is anything more than what others have said. But..
#1. Practise. Unless you have an uncanny ability, you cannot expect to get too close to the fast online times too soon. The main thing is to practise to enable you to predict what the car will do in any situation. You WILL get faster the more you practise. Today may be 5 seconds off the pace, after 1 or 2 hundred laps you will likely be a lot closer, maybe 3 seconds.
#2. Find a car you like. try different cars and stick with the one you are most comfortable in driving. This will make the task of learning tracks and lines a lot easier, rather than battling with a car you find an unpredictable pig to drive.
#3. Pick a simple track. try high speed ring, or Suzuka east. These have less corners and so will be easier to remember where and how you need to go. The lap times are also lower, so you get to do more of them in a given time.
#4. Load a ghost replay. Maybe not a good idea to try the fastest ghost replay.. but try 10th quickest time. You will be closer to the ghost that way, and so you can see where he goes and what he does. After a while, load another ghost to see if the lines taken are different.
#5. Don't overdrive. If you hear squealing tyres, its too fast (when your learning), and you are only losing time by scrubbing speed off. Go slow to go fast. And a general rule for corners is slow in, fast out.
#6. Don't compare yourself to other drivers. Compare yourself to you. The guys who set fastest online times are ungodly quick, and for most of us mere mortals, we will never better them. When your starting out, be happy when you better your own previous best time. As you improve, the quickest times look a lot less daunting. Thinking you should be close to these times initially will only get you more frustrated.
#7. Have fun and enjoy. 'nuff said.

Back when GT5 was first released, I found that the difference between Sixaxis and Wheel users was about 1 second in time trial mode, but as the advantages of using a G25 became more publicised and people started making the switch, the gap has increased markedly.

To put it simply, the G25 is the way to go. It is very difficult to get used to a wheel and like others have said, you'll start off slower with a wheel at first. Within a few weeks you should be easily able to match your Sixaxis times very easily and once you've done this, then all you need to do is keep practicing and watch your times tumble!

The precision using a wheel and pedals are unmatchable. But what makes the G25 so great is the clutch!

;)
