Help me solve this situation (clip inside)

I'm in the red GTR to the right in front of the orange car that the camera is following. As we went down to the chicane I hit the brakes a bit late and intended to go wide because I knew that there was person right next to me. When I checked my back mirror the orange car was at a safe distance so I didn't think it would be a problem for me to turn in. However, as you can see from the clip the driver of the orange car hit the brakes a bit too late and tried to squeeze into the gap between me and the other GTR. He started to understeer heavily and instead hit me in the back, sending us both into the wall.

The problem with this situation was that:

1. My crash into the wall was far more severe and made me lose a lot of time just by correcting the car and drive it back on the track.
2. I immediately got a decrease in SR and a 10 second (!) penalty, which made me drop 5 positions.
3. He didn't seem to get a penalty at all and ended up in second place.

Was I at fault here? Maybe I'm not seeing this the right way? Did the system punish me because it thought that I blocked him?

It's a no fault system. It punished you because you made excessive contact with another car even though that contact is entirely the fault of the driver behind you. That's how the system works. It doesn't assign fault so you can't be "wrong".

I believe you are correct. A computer that tries to evaluate human behaviour... when has that ever worked out?

It does look like an accident. He did lose it too, and went off. Looks as if he was trying to slow and maybe thought he'd turn in faster to the inside line and avoid you.

They really need to tighen-up how the algo's work when contact is made in the corners. If you're off the race line and someone hits you from behind at certain speed above a "set speed" they should get punished, and you should get no pen.

I do understand both receiving a penalty, however there have been times a similar less sever situation to above has happened, and I don't receive a penalty - does that mean the other driver has found a way to game the penalty system?

Does anyone know if penalties/ ghostings are calculated differently in various SR ratings? Or is the no ghosting in DR S independant?
