Hi im having some problems with Entourage(Macintosh).
I can't seem to send or receive emails from the POP server, i've checked all the POP server settings, and everything apears to be in order, but i keep getting "error" messages asking for my password .
I've tried in vain to connect, but it just won't have it.
At first i thought it may be that the server was down, but i can log onto that no problem,it's just Entourage can't for some reason. (Im using Macmail.com)

I've been over the settings many times , and can't see anything obvious.

Has anyone else had this problem.? One of the other "errors" i get is "Mail error. The server did not understand the request." Error 5501.

Can anyone help me out here.?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks.

First of all, is Entourage a Macintosh version of Outlook or something?

Try taking a look at this thread.

If that doesn't solve your problem, then I'd recommend posting it in the MacNN Software forum... it's a really busy forum, so you should get help pretty quickly there. :)

Also, do you have the latest service update packages installed?

Thanks Sage I spent hours trying to figure this out.
I tried updating everything ,that did'nt help. Then i spoke to a couple of friends that live near by that are using the same setup as i am ,and they seem to have the same problem.

So we think that there is something wrong with the macmail.com server ,maybe they've stopped POP3 support,or it's a problem that they don't yet know about.
Because if they had changed the POP3 service there would be some mention of it ..
In any case i had to resort to opening another account with mail.velnet.com , they give you 50mb storage ..(only as backup),if the macmail is fixed i will go back to using it..
I've also emailed macmail support to bring this problem to their attention, so hopefully something will be done.

At least i've got it sorted for now , i can't afford to have it down for a day let alone 3.

Thanks again for posting those links up, i found some good threads there regarding other issue's..👍 :)

@ Cobraking .I've never really mentioned i use a mac (only a couple of times).

I will never go back to PC's again :)

So are they worth buying? I might consider one of those for my next computer. but im not sure if its the type of comp for me :D

edit. can u use msn messenger with those?

You're welcome! :)

"The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners."

Cobraking- Asking a Mac user if you should buy a Mac is like asking a member of the Sierra Club if deforesting is bad... ;) Go visit your local Apple Store and see if one's right for you.

And yes, you can use MSN Messenger with OS X.

Yeah they are well worth it ,depending on what you want to do with it ..If your thinking gaming i would stick with PC's because mac's are somewhat limited in that area.

But for major graphics work ,sound app's etc they are second to none in that area..

The messenger issue, you can use them but these are also limited, e.g yahoo messenger has no voice chat support for mac users, and none of the fancy stuff you get on the PC version ,like the fancy animated backgrounds etc, MSN messenger has similar restrictions..

Hey Sage i really like that ..Is that the safari web browser.? looks the biz..
I've not yet made the switch but will be doing it very soon..

Yup, that's Safari... Haven't used IE in, oh, over half a year now! :D

I originally thought that you were one of those people who like to hide their Dock (I can't stand that!), but heh... I wish I had two monitors!

Well, I just decided to switch my theme over to BBX Mercury... pretty nice, eh?

Yup, it's really nice. And the guy who created it is close to completing his new theme that will be a totally metal theme (aluminum), and he's already been working on it for a year or so! Then he'll come out with a variation based on the iBook's exterior. I eagerly await. :)

That sounds awsome  can't wait to see it ..I think i should start getting into this customising..:)

I still have those links you sent me , so im going to check them out.

Just downloaded safari, itunes 4 also ipod update :D

it's a really nice interface,i wish i done it sooner, so much nicer to look at and easier to use..:)

Yup, gorgeous, ain't it? :D And so much faster than IE!

BTW, here's some info on BBX's Mirai theme:

Aluminum theme

Also, here's a quote from him from another thread:

I hear ya' brother - I'm doing the same thing with Mirai, all-metal-no-plastic, like it was sculpted out of die-cast metal (and man does it ever look like die-cast metal) - I don't want a titch of that metal going transparent. I've been struggling (for what, a year now) trying to get around the fact that I don't want transmogrification between materials anywhere, that it all be as much like an assembly of touchable physical objects rather than virtual ones - so no metal buttons will light up and turn to plastic or get tinted. The buttons push in like real metal buttons would. Try designing into Aqua's space and try not to rely on the transmogrification between materials or even color-shifts and you see just how difficult this can be.

I want it to look like windows assembled from die-cast metal are hovering and drifting over the desktop. I want the dock to look like a die-cast drawer that pops up magnetically on command... the icons to look like die-cast metal badges hovering as well. The biggest thing ticking me off is the fact that icons dragged to the finder window toolbar are ghosted with white instead of becoming semi-transparent when the window is in the background. I've had to resort to designing all-white linework 'glyph' versions of the logos one might drag to the toolbar, but then this plays out into the dock, so the trash becomes a 2D glyph that pops over the edge of the metal drawer if magnification is turned on. So now I'm toying with the idea of making the trash a badge and recommending that users not use it in their toolbar if the ghosting is shattering the illusion (not that it would ever bother anyone the way it bothers me, but hey)...

 I like the sounds of this :D When do you think this will be ready :P And will it be downloadable :D

Had a wee look at The android workshop "Dark glass theme, very nice..Do you have this on your ibook?.

Dunno when it'll be ready... Billy (the guy who creates the BBX themes) is an absolute perfectionist, and doesn't like to set premature release dates. Heck, back in November he said that Mirai was "almost done", and in the meantime he's scrapped it and totally redone it. He also has a new addition to the family, so... I'd say within the next month or two would be a relatively safe bet. I'm assuming he'll release it before Panther.

And of course it'll be downloadable! I've never heard of a theme that wasn't available for the public. ;) These themers are awesome people.

Nope. It's a bit too... I dunno, cartoonish for me. I'm very, very picky with my themes. And for the most part, I only use themes from Max, Swiz, and Izawaa.

Also, trust me on this: Dark themes don't work well on OS X, because Aqua doesn't allow for text color change (other than in the menubar and menu items), so text becomes unreadable in dark themes. Izawaa has an absolutely killer theme called Shinobi (as can be seen here), but it's a dark theme, so its daily useability isn't very good. :(

I would post a SS of my computer(my Linux one...) but that computer is too crappy to take a screen shot. 200mhz doesn't allow me to have too much eye candy...):

If i bought a Mac, would i be able to transfer all my pictures and mp3's and certain programs (just Photoshop and Worms World Party) to the Mac from my Windows box?
