This is from memory so bear with me...

Start = pause, can choose to exit race or change the screen settings.

Select = pause on/off

X = select item or choose between 3 different views (bumper, chase cam, and full panoramic camera views) of various cars

O = call in for pit stop. After pit, you can use the D-pad and X to toggle various choices (which tires, how much fuel {if any}) etc.

Triangle: go into "overtake" mode (helps to tell your driver when to pass and when not to pass)

^...that one was edited from Fabmaru's post below, thanks. 👍

[]...not used?

D pad left & right = toggles thru various menu items & speed ratings from 1 to 5

D pad up & down: switches from one car to the next

R1 = switch to Race Monitor and back to race

hold L1 + D pad left or right= switches the speed of the race from X1 to X2 to X3 (damn, we need this in GT5!). You gotta hold L1 while you do this, though.

R2 & L2: not used (I think)

R2 = switches HUD on and off

L2 = not used

Analog sticks R3 & L3: not used (I think)

b-spec driver will pit when tires get worn out or when fuel is low

...in theory. In practice, it's best to keep a watch over B-spec to make sure it doesn't try to drive on bad tires or run out of fuel. I find it best to call in B-spec drivers when their tires are wearing from yellow to orange. The driver might have a decent lead which potentially gets blown as it can no longer handle the car that's being driven.

Do the longer races count more towards game completion? Im at about 11% and want to unlock the F1 car as fast as possible, any tips would be great. I get fast cash doing the second event in the special condition races, money isnt an issue.

When I did the Le Mans 24 Hours the game completion was up for 0,3 % so that is a no. And to get the Formula GT, one of the Mercedes one make races gives you a DTM as a price car which you can use to win the race.

Each race and each driving mission count equally towards game completion, so a 24 hour race counts the same towards completion as a one lap race. Each championship series also counts towards game completion. This means that the Clubman Cup, for example, counts as five events towards game completion whereas the Tuning Car Grand Prix counts as six; one fort each race and one for the series itself.

You can tell the difference between individual race series such as the Clubman and championship series such as the Tuning Car GP: the Clubman has five circles next to it (each of which is filled with a trophy once you've won it), whereas the Tuning Car GP has square boxes next to it.

If I recall correctly there are a total of 589 races championships and driving missions, so each one counts for about 0.17% towards completion.

thanks bob, I hit 25% last night and am done beating the game for now though. All I gotta do now is check in on bob to ff the 24hr ring race, hes been pitting on his own thankfully.

Its good to get to the 25% mark because then all the endurance races open up and you can run the El Capitan Race for the Minolta Toyota!

Its crazy I know, but like BobK said, each race win counts the same percent towards the 100% completion mark.

There are 522 races and 34 missions so the total is 556 times 0.179856115 which will equal the 100% competion mark (you can round to 0.18% for each).

Good luck!

Don't forget the 33 Championship Series, each of which counts as a completion event if you enter and win the championship. Hence 589, not 556.

BobK is correct!

GT4 does include the Championship Series wins as an additional step. So each step advances you only 0.17% (100%/589) (as BobK said above).

Sorry for any confusion. I had forgotten the details of how the game calculates the completion percentage.
