Help with version type #

Hey people I am kinda paranoid about which Gran Turismo 2 version I have I have played and beat GT2 many time with the non greatest hits and the greatest hits. I remember in my non greatest hits version it would always get affected with the garage bug all the cars names would be no name no name thing it would say my GT-one would have 33000hp and weigh 4LBS and **** like that. Well enough about this you guys already know about all these glitches anyway how do you find out which version you have weather it be 1.0 1.1 or 1.2 I know that 1.0 is the most glitchy and 1.2 has like none at all. And all Greatest hits are 1.2 which is an easy way to find that out. But I do not have the GE (I just bought it from a reliable seller of ebay) version so I am paranoid so please help me I dont want to get 100 hours in the game and have it get erased out of the middle of nowhere!!! like it has happend many time before in the other non GE versions I have owned:scared:

Just to let you know I have the NTSC/U/C product # SCUS-94455
94455

My disks have no scratches at all and are not dirty. Sorry for the long post I just wanted to be as descriptive as I can.

Help will be so so so so MUCH APPRETIATED thanks:crazy: :)

One easy way to tell if you have 1.0 or not (but it doesn't get much more specific) is to race modify the Ford Taurus. If the car looks like this in simulation mode, it isn't version 1.0:

If it looks like this in simulation mode, it is version 1.0:

Another way is to try different Gameshark codes for each version (what I did) until you find which version has codes that work.

Version 1.0: enter the Tahiti Maze race with the Peugeot. As you race, the peugeot promptly will drive straight into a wall and remain there for the rest of the race.

Version 1.1: The Peugeot will complete the entire course.

Other than that, here's the unofficial guide:

(Version 1.0) Car Wash says 5000 Cr, Muscle Car Cup licenses are incorrect, #6 Mark Martin's Taurus SHO as racing modification, 98.2% complete maximum.

(Version 1.1) Car Wash says 5000 Cr, Muscle Car Cup licenses are incorrect, #6 Mark Martin's Taurus SHO is gone, 98.2% complete maximum.

(Version 1.2) Car Wash says 50 Cr, Muscle Car Cup licenses fixed, #6 Mark Martin's Taurus SHO is gone, 100% complete maximum

If you modify a Ford Taurus (South City) in 1.0, you'll wind up with Mark Martin's NASCAR Taurus when you buy a race kit for it. They quickly got rid of this within a matter of a month or so, presumably because Sony / Polyphony didn't have the proper license agreement. In later versions, you get a generic Taurus when you race modify it.

Thanks for the help PB and Toro, I did one of the things you suggested PB I bought a car and went to the car wash and it said it would cost 5000Cr nooo! Well I guess I will have to deal with all the dozens of glitches in this game for the 10th time dammit!:banghead:  :ouch:

I feel your pain, bro. I think the above info might be slightly wrong: 1.0 had the "5000 credit" car wash, and 1.1 had the correct 50 cr. wash. Also, 1.0 had a slew of typos not found in later games: the most famous being when you entered the GT300 series, the first race was held at "Grand Valley Bast" instead of Grand Valley East! :D

In any event, you should know I originally bought GT2 vers. 1.0 from a loser on Amazon.com years ago. Not only did I eventually lose a garage, but I also experienced other massive probs: sometimes the screen would go black between menu changes and other times I would be right in the middle of a race and the screen would freeze :ouch:

Later on I bought 1.2/greatest hits. Just to let you know: 1.2 has never given me any problems, but I HAVE lost some garages using 1.2--so it's not entirely glitch-free. :( However, it took LOTS of track testing and a few careless saves before I had this happen.

So you had to enduare the pain and suffering of the evil menacing GT2 V1.0:scared: to as did many other poor helpless souls I am rather sorry about that:(
So are you saying if you test you car out at the test course too much it will make it glitch, and saving it to much ah ok so thats I'll just have to refrain from those actions then.

Here's the deal. With 1.2, I can still do track testing, however, it's a good idea to CHECK YOUR GARAGE AFTER LEAVING THE TEST AREA. If you see anything fishy....DO NOT SAVE. Restart your game or reload it but do not save.
Usually the top car of the garage will get screwy first before you lose all your cars. I actually caught my Honda Accord Wagon at several thousand horsepower.

But I go one step further: over the past year and a half, I've aquired many PS1 memory cards. They sell them for so cheap at Gamestop and EB, so I've dedicated one of them to do all my track testing. That's all I do is track testing....and an occasional run at Red Rock/Allstars to get more money. I figure if that one card goes bad, it won't hurt any of my other GT2 games, but so far it hasn't gone bad.

Umm, guys, arent you forgetting? Even then you race modify the Taurus and get the generic stock car, you will still get the Mark Martin stock car in arcade mode.

My screenshot from version 1.2 showed that quite clearly.

It happened to me. It really pissed me off.
But me being ''clever'' guy, I always had my Escudo at the top of the list :sly:
In a day or 2, I had all my cars back in the garage, *cough*Red Rock Valley*cough*
