Brucifxr
Today I unplugged all my cords from my Xbox 360 Slim and cleaned it out, untagled all the USB cords in the back, basically just cleaned off everything. So I plug in everything, and when I plugged in the power cord, I see the Power Brick light blinking. I've seen people with blinking Red/Yellow lights but in my case it's an orange blinking light.
I unplugged the power cord and vacuumed out the vents, but it is still blinking. I unplug it and it stops blinking, but upon plugging to the Xbox, it blinks again.

What does this mean and how do I fix it?

If it helps to know, I own a 4gb Xbox 360 Slim (Matte, and with 250gb HDD installed). The console is about 2 years old.
My power brick is one of the ones that has a fan in it, and it makes quite some noise after playing for an hour. The Xbox itself is plugged into an extension cord which then goes into a surge protector, then the surge protector is plugged to the wall.

Sorry for double post, Ps3 character limit you know?

I heard on youtube that the cause is that you are using to many USB ports so the power brick doesn't have enough power to run the console AND USB ports? (I use 3 out of 5 on my xbox)

Try plugging it into just a wall outlet (don't use extension or surge protector) and see if you still get the blinking light. Just move your 360 to a closer power point if need be, you won't need to have the 360 display plugged into tv to see what's happening your just testing the power supply. Just make sure you have everything plugged in that you would normally use when you test. If the light is still blinking then your power brick has 🤬 itself, and you will need a new/replacement one.

Wall outlets are not an option as I only have 2 and the A/C in my room takes up a whole outlet because of how big the plug is, my only other outlet hooks up 2 T.V.s, a mini fridge, both consoles, a stereo, and the last 2 on the surge protector are reserved for my future Alienware x51. :sly:👍
(Hence why I have the extension cord as well)

I have tried temporarily unplugging the surge protector and then plug up the Xbox...nothing.
Ugh. This is annoying as I just got FC3 for the 360 and I can't even play it. :(

I think you're right, I need a new PSU. But before I get another, I need to do everything to make sure it's completely broken. I'll start by taking it apart and seeing if anythings disconnected, etc.
(A piece of me still feels that it still works.)

Hmm ok let's try this, try it in another power point (not in your room) in the house. I'm sure there's another one somewhere :)

I tried what you suggested, results : (Note that not every single room was tested)
Kitchen - Nope
Bathroom - Nada
Bathroom 2 - It worked but as soon as I touch the power button it flashes again
Living Room (All 4 outlets) - Nope
Closet - Same results as with Bathroom 2
And in extreme desperation, I went to the back room that leads outside and even tried it there and nothing.

I think it's time for a replace :(
But I can't find the problem !
The light is flashing orange not red, so it isn't a "Fault Alarm"

I've been looking at the Microsoft site and it's says the last step you should try is making sure the fan is not covered. You can try blowing some compressed air in it to see if you can get rid of some dust. Otherwise it's broken and you should not open it. No need to get a heart attack from something that might cost $50 to replace.

Haha well you didn't have to test it in so many rooms, one other room would have been fine. Try what nick09 said but it that doesn't help it's fried and unfortunately 2 years is "out of warranty" for it. Not a major problem to fix.

This point cannot be stressed enough, never ever open a power supply unless you're a trained electrical or electronic engineer or you're too lazy to go outside to commit suicide. Absolutely not joking or exaggerating.

@nick09
The heart attack was more towards the fact that I can't find the problem :P
Oh and yes, I've tried compressed air already.

@ShaZZa
Yeah, that many rooms was probably unnecessary :lol:
I just needed to be sure it wasn't a problem with outlets.

Oh well, I orded a replacement today.
