1. Search Google for "how to clean PS2 laser"
2. Follow the guide
3. Play

I had the exact same thing happening to me, but I cleaned the laser and it works like new again 👍

Get a new PS2, I had to replace mine twice, and now my third one won't read it, in the long run the PS2 wasn't very reliable, try the slim one, I never got one so I don't know how well they work.

I had this happen to me once last year. All it was, was the laser in the PS2 was dirty. Search directions &or videos on how to clean out your PS2.

That's way too many "p"s in the thread title if you ask me. By the way, I'm having a similar problem with GTA San Andreas.

Games that have lots of detail are usally the ones that sometimes dont read.
I can think of:

GT4
Grand theft auto San Andreas
Premier Manager 2006

Obviously your laser has issues, as has been said cheapest way would be to clean it, if no good buy another one or is probably just as cheap to buy another PS2 these days, and a lot less hassle.

It'll be a lot of rumbles trying to say helpppppppp.

GTA SA, must have been used on the same type of disc.

My Grand theft auto is now working. It works sometimes and it does not.
I looked at youtube for cleaning lasers and you need this weird rubbing alcahol.:odd::odd::odd::odd:

I had the same problem with GT4 awhile back but I read that blowing the dust out of the case helps. I took apart the PS2 case (warranty ended a long time ago) and used compressed air to clean out all the dust and GT4 and all my other games worked again.

What is the big empty spot inside when you take off the door on the bottom left side on the back of the PS2 fat?

It's the hard-drive expansion bay. I'm not sure what they had in mind for it, or if it even got used with any PS2 titles. Above that is the slot where you can plug in the network adapter for LAN use.

Rubbing alcohol or medicinal alcohol is typically isopropyl alcohol (2-propanol) and is available easily at most pharmacies. It's good for cleaning & sterilising cuts & grazes. If you've ever been wiped with a sterile wipe prior to having an injection, or blood withdrawn, the wipe they use is a pre-packaged one that's soaked in rubbing alcohol.

Which style of PS2 do you actually have Supergini?
Old fat-one or newer slimline one?
Old fatties sometimes lose laser alignment, and there's an excellent guide to resetting it somewhere around here.
Let us know.
