The game is enjoyable with steering assists (remove braking) and bumper cam. I couldn't drive at all with the cockpit view and no steering assists. Hope it helps, I just won my 1st race with that.

The handling with g27 is awesome with a tuned ride. I have one almost dialed in but the plethora of options on tuning has me bewildered. I disliked at first but now I know total control is attainable.

You can adjust how it plays with a DS3 in the same menu that you would use to tune the wheel settings, if you had one. You may be able to make it feel better.

This was the key for me. The handling with a DS3 was way too floaty until I set the dead zones to 0 and tweaked sensitivity. The menu is a bit hidden for my tastes and I think a lot of initial impressions of the game are ruined because the default setup is so ridiculous.

My two cents...

What sensitivity are you using now?

I wonder if the manual says how to get to the advanced menu... but who read manuals nowadays. Everything is so simple :D

I think I have steering/acceleration/braking set to around 35. Still tweaking a little, need to go back and check. I tried setting each one to 0 - testing it - then to 100 - testing it - to get a feel for the extremes. Definitely worth the time because it saves you a lot of frustration later. It is a bit subjective depending on the car you use to test though..

I read the manual, smart guy. And it ain't in there. ;>

I said I wonder because I'm still waiting for the game and couldn't check myself :grumpy:

But its a fact that only a few do read the manual... its a guy thing i guess (like not asking for directions)

Sorry if i mislead you into anything else.

The handling with a DS3 is truly wonky.

Agree! In GT5 I can go from my Fanatec to the DS3 and still put in good laps, and "feel" the car doing it. I only got about an hour of Shift2 time in so far, and even after playing around with the advanced settings I felt like the cars were all twitchy with the DS3. I haven't tried enabling the steering assist yet or broken out the Fanatec.

BTW - on bumper cam - having the specific gauges for the car you are driving is a nice touch instead of generic one size fits all gauges!

After struggling with the DS3 I picked up a Logitech Driving Force Wireless (until my DFGT comes) and all I can say is what a difference. I actually won the first race I ran with this wheel. Using the DS3 I wasn't very competitive - spent too much time just trying to stay on the track.
BTW, I also have a HKS controller - better than the DS3 but not by much.

I've been messing with all the settings since yesterday and I still can't find a comfortable setup with the DS3. Even going down a straight if you touch the joystick the car tries to fly off the track :(

With the DS3 I had to set steering deadzone to 0, steering sensitivity to 10, and
speed sensitivity to 100. This allowed me to stay on the track but hard to race in tight situations. Using a wheel was the only way I could race.
