Hi, and some questions about the Gillet Vertigo

Hi, guys - nice to see such an interesting and informative site about GT3. I've been a fan of the GT series for a while (played GT2 a helluva lot) but only recently (last week) got a copy of GT3. Let's just say I've got my recently neglected petrolhead hat firmly back on again.

I've just picked up a Gillet Vertigo after winning the Euro Cup, and am quite taken with it - it's just so cool-looking, innit? It doesn't seem to figure much in polls on this forum of best/fastest/coolest car, but I like it. It's had a bit of a tune to take it up to 712 bhp (instantly overtaking my previous motor, a maxed-out RX-7), and I was wondering - can anyone suggest ways I can improve its setup in terms of suspension settings and so on to improve its performance further? I am a total novice where suspension setup, LSD, AYC and so forth are concerned, so a few pointers would be a great help.

Also (and apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere) - how many laps is the Like The Wind race, and how nice a car would I need to win it? I covet a Mazda 787B, but I doubt the little Gillet would cut t'mustard against an R390 and other similar cars.

Cheers in advance.

Hi, Fink, and welcomt to GTPlanet. Enjoy your stay with us! Most of the action is on the GT4 board, but there are a few folks who stop in here now and again

In answer to your questions, I like the Vertigo, but I don't like it with too much power. With all the sauce, it somehow seems to understeer and oversteer at the same time. That being said, try searching the GT3 Settings board for "Vertigo" and see if anything turns up.

There are a few great threads, mostly stickied at the top of the GT3 Settings board, that give you the basics of suspension adjustment. Also, have a long look in the Online Racing (OLR) forum on the OLR School board - that's got loads of information.

Also, have a read through the Race Reports threads to see how people did with what cars in which races.

I used a Viper Oreca with a big turbo for the Like The Wind race, though I can't recall the length. Your pumped-up Vertigo might do it with some tweaking. Lower it all the way, put the hardest slicks on it, and reduce downforce to minimum. Then, hit the track and adjust the transmission so that you are topping out about 1000 rpm below the rev limiter on the open track. This will give you some extra room if you are drafting, without hitting the rev limiter. Don't bother pitting and just wail away - you should get the win.

A few tips for someone new to GT3, if you don't know them already: change the oil of any car before you drive it the first time for free bonus 5% extra power. Also, search for "save and reload trick" to find a way to (sort of) pick your prize cars.

Good luck, and welcome aboard!

Like the Wind is 20 laps of the Test Curse.
It can be won in anything with around 900HP and Super Slick tyres.
A Supra RZ, Dodge Viper, TVR Speed 12, Lotus Esprit, Skyline, 300ZX or something like that should do just fine. Don't pit in. The AI will, and they'll lose! Draft as much as possible.
If you have the Escudo that'll also win.
You will need to have obtained your S-licence to enter that race though.

Thanks for the info. Got a good setup from the Settings forum - handles nicely. My housemate and general GT nemesis doesn't like it (he doesn't like the oversteer/understeer schtick it does) but it suits me very well.

Got a 1:15:904 time on Trial Mountain with it - that's my lap record on there. Quite pleased with it, though I know there's more speed in the track. What'd be a competitive time round there in a comparable car (Viper, C5R, NSX, etc, I'd imagine).

After the Castrol TOM's Supra now, to tune up and go Like The Wind in. :)
