Hi everyone,
I just joined the forum today.
I have been playing GT since my University days back in '98. I have played all of the GT games and currently own GT5. Until recently, I had become a bit bored with my PS3. I haven't played it for months, but something made me pick up the controller this last Saturday morning while the rest of the family was asleep, and try out the "open lobby" part of the game for the first time: wow what a blast!
I spent from about 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. playing others from all over the world (I've never had so much fun losing at anything), which I'm sure is not a big deal for many gamers, but for a 42 year old lawyer, it was a fantastic new experience: refreshing, interactive, admittedly addictive.
Up to this point, I had been intimidated by the whole on-line aspect of video games. I grew up with the belief that gaming was something you did on your own, so it's a hard concept to grasp. However, after I started, I quickly realized how much more interesting it was racing against real people from all over the world. I was fascinated by the different national flags, seeing the text exchanges between the players, often in languages that I didn't understand, but that didn't matter. It was the whole idea that we come from such different cultures, and there may not be a lot we can agree on, or a lot that we have in common, but we certainly can agree on one thing: GT5. It's a bit embarrassing to admit that I have been playing video games for all these years and never tried this aspect of the experience. It literally renewed my interest in GT5, the PS3, and gaming in general.
Now I am considering the purchase of a Logitech g27 wheel/dfgt wheel etc. I've noted when GT6 is being released (December) and I am so thankful that I have a renewed interest in an activity I thought I had grown out of. I've been playing games since Asteroids and Pitfall on the Atari 2600, just to give you an idea of how disappointing it is to think you've grown out of an activity that has spanned decades of your life.
Anyway, I discovered this forum while researching which wheel to purchase, and I thought I would say hi. So, hi from Canada, eh!!! Keep the rubber side down. Game on............
