...Forum looks very lively.

The thing I wanted to bring up was whether you think GT4 will include more effects? GT3 had no skid mark effects and I would like to see them realistically included in GT4. Obviously GT4 doesn't want to look too arcadey, but skidmarks occur in real life racing, so why not in GT4?

Cheers...

Who is MW AHHAHHAHHA ?

I don't see why it would have to be a memory issue. If you ever had the early F1 games for the Playstation by Bizarre Creations, they all featured skid marks. However, as more skidmarks were created, the older skidmarks disappeared. Is there not a chance that the same idea could be utilised in GT4?

There is. However, that's not real. In real racing rubber gets layed down and stays down, for the most part. So having skids disppear would be unrealistic, and thus, KY won't allow it. He takes a very all or nothing approach to including aspects, it's either done 100% or it's dropped.

Now, the other thing is that tyre marks like that aren't just an aesthetic effect. In reality, they're a physical one, they change the grip level of that piece of tarmac. The track itself also gains grip as more rubber is layed onto it, and marbles build up on the edge of turns as pieces of tyre are thrown clear. This becomes something you have to take into consideration and caculate. So now we have to assign a small section of the track to not only have a different texture, but a different grip level. We have to allow these levels to build up and overlap, and we have to take them into account for all 6 cars, every lap of the race. By the end, you're going to have a mountain of data to match the mountain of rubber on your circuit. That's why I feel it's a memory limited issue.

Early F1 games didn't have anywhere near the graphics nor the realism of GT games, and the way in which they dealt with skid marks was very superficial.

Welcome to GTP oozey.

You could extend Eagle's argument further by taking into account track and tyre temperature too.

The hotter the track more rubber gets put down... The hotter the tyre the more rubber goes down... Now the temperature of the track also varies from where people are racing on it and how much rubber is already on it etc...

I think you can see where I'm going with this!!

Spot on Eagle. KY said in the GTP interview that he would only put things into his games if he did it right. It would be really nice to see them appear, but I know they won't.

Welcome to the forum oozeymc, enjoy your stay. My only advise would be to make sure (if you haven't done already) you quickly read the rules and make use of the search feature before posting. Other than that, enjoy your stay.

Cheers

I had done a search and couldn't find anything that dealt with this query. There is, however, alot of messages to trawl through!

I didn't know I had violated any rules with this post either.

Rockybalboa2k5, i don't think you should say stuff like that tbh, this is a GT4 forum after all, and madduck, lets at least give forza a chance, it is still after all, only an early build which we have seem.

Ooze, ooze, ooze... fear not. Welcome to GTPlanet! I see you're from Leicester. I know that city best for Donnington Park. As far as the effects you were mentioning, I'll have to agree with j8mie on this one.

In any event, you have nothing to fear. Sometimes, you'll want to do searches only if you feel that the topic has been done before. But if you been reading from us and decide to finally make your debut to GTP, you basically know that you've seen almost everything. And ooze, as I've said, fear not. You know, you seem to be just like me. I'm usually a shy and concerned person on GTP, so every post I do, I hope it gets a lot of good responses, give or take bad ones. I am, of course, the author of the "My Message to New Members" stickie that deals with newcomers to GTP posting questions that may have already been asked.

So, enjoy yourself on GTP, and take it easy, alright? John of Houston, TX, USA out the door! Good bye!

It's okay dude. I wasn't saying you had broken any rules :)

Yes there are a lot of posts on here, and it can seem very overwhelming when you join.

Just pointing out that it's worth reading the rules, as your a newbie to the forum, and there's plenty of people that will jump down your neck if you break them, that includes posting something that's already been covered. But fear not, your off to a good start.

Cheers

Jamie

P.S. Mental note to self, need to make my posting clearer to others ;)

Fair do's people.

I'm glad to be here.

I shall, however, be wise and not make a post concerning the inclusion of Ferrari and Porsche in GT4:P

Welcome to GTP oozey.

you'll notice that GT tracks do have long term tire marks... the braking area and entrances to turns are heavily darkened. This is a static feature though, and it doesn't change.... I wonder if the traction is different, or if it will be...

One interesting point is that I think in either license tests or in arcade mode, the darkened areas are gone. This is unfortunate, because the dark spots on the track are a good indication of the beginning of the braking zone.

Welcome to GTP Oozeymc, as long as you use the search function beore making obviouse threads you'll be fine, try to use it as much as possible.

And hello to you too.

As long as you learn to spell before making rude posts, then I'm sure you'll be equally fine. Try and do it as much as possible too.

What is your problem? You get welcomed here and then start taking about rude posts.

About time too.

You should wait until your second day here before you start ripping on grammar and spelling...

Good, because I'm starting to think being polite and welcoming you as a new member was a bad idea.

This certainly developed in an interesting way...

I don't think there was any difference in the grip level on those darkened patches, however if you want an easy way to give the illusion of a real track, having different albeit static grip levels for braking areas (more rubber) and shady patches (colder asphalt) would be a good way to go about it.

Well, Ooze isn't going to be the next F-body or DarkLegion (even though I don't know about his/her posts). I mean, I'll respect Ooze as a human being and want to exhibit my kindness to him/her. So anyhow, welcome to GTP. Be careful there.

Hell you've been fitting in so well I thought you were an older member lol. Welcome to GTP then.

I'm surpised liveforspeed's bad spelling doesn't scare off half the people who start welcome threads. Famine should start giving home-schooling lessons. :P

Just messing. ;)
