I know gt5 will be really detailed, But theres more to different colour headlights, it should go into the hid vs standard halogen, Say for instance driving down a night track in gt5 in a BMW e92 m3, your headlights should see farther and be aimed lower to the ground then the dodge viper that just passed you, who has standard halogen in a projecter housing, So while driving alone in a time trial at night with HID lights, you see a very white/ purple crystal light in front of you and a sharp cut off line running against trees, guardrails, and other cars and lighting up track markers, and for that extra effect, you should be able to see the cutoff line bounce up and down gently up against signs in the distance, as for standard halogen it should be alittle sharp but no where near as bright as the HID Lights, it should be white/bronse off the road with a slight fuzzyness texture, but should still light up signs while your going up a hill or over a bump, say for instance your driving a ford mustang down suzuka at night, you should see a slightly fuzzy beam off of the road, and it should be different with each car, hids, projects, standard housing, crystal ball effect like in most new mercedes and the new hyundai genesis, I like small detail,
i like how cars in gt4 each had different headlights, some yellow, some white, some off white, some hid,ETC and i like how led tailights would glimmer compared to regular tailights, and how prejection headlights and hids would glimmer from side to side while in the distance,(mainly on de la sarthe) I also like how in gt5p led tailights shutoff fast and activate faster then regular bulb tailights. That just shows the attention to detail. Witch i know will make driving in gt5p on night tracks a blast. also a sepperate foglight effect would be cool as well, But do you guys see what im getting at? also the effect when you get passed out night buy cars with brighter headlights then your own, for instance, silverstars, or piaas or hids. they take over your whole vision of light emiting from your headlights, just food for thought, only racing game i seen the hid effect in was Need for speed underground2 witch was really accurate.

Wow so basicly no one pay's attention to small details that can set games apart, or make and break a game.

While a share your enthusiasm for little details that make a game stand out, I think Polyphony Digital has more serious issues to address for Gt5 than this. Also, your text is kind of hard to read due to the lack of interruptions. :)

it's a nice idea but it certainly won't make or break the game.

and yeah, use periods.

My bad, I was really tired when i wrote that. I mean at least theres some type of grammer identifation in there imo.

If they are going into the whole night-racing idea, which I really hope, this will be very important. However, if they just keep doing perfect weather races I think this is a point where I can allow the to slack off just a little :)

If you've worked in a 3D graphic environment, you may know these details will easily work themselves out. The difference between soft or sharp light, the color of light itself, etc. are functions of the chosen light source in the program used to model this game. It should just be a matter of careful selection, but the real question is whether or not they choose to include night racing options.

It's funny to see what liitle details people used to expect to be in the game, looking at the gamescom vids, the headlights don't light up anything, even though they are on.

First lets see if the lights actually work first before we worry about what they look like.

What i don't get is why they don't light anything up in the gamescom vids, they are on, but when the car goes up to a wall or anyting, nothing, it's like they are not a true light source.

it's a demooooooooo...💡
or should we say some sort of beta

I agree, changing up lighting or colors is simply changing a value, its easy from a programmers point of view, and I'm sure the game engine has a robust head light simulator that does this.

The light source is probably switched off in daytime, why use more cpu power when there is no need for it, one thing that really impacts on performance is having too many light sources, probably the least intensive method is having a big virtual sun in the sky, kind of like the one used in Maya.

I just hope they have included night racing and rain/weather effects, damage can stay at home and play on it's own.

It makes sense not to use the extra computing power needed for modelling the headlights for a race in broad day-light. Or would you rather reduce the number of cars further for something like that...?

That's actually a central question in a lot of those "I wish they would include this and that" posts/rants. As the hardware capabilities are not unlimited, what would you be willing to sacrifice to get it...?

For me, I'd rather still have 16 (18, 20, 22 ...?) cars on the grid than too much detail. Sure, it's all nice to look at and it adds to the overall ambiance of the game in replays or when you pause the game, but honestly...while you're racing, you see only a fraction of all that.

Edit: oops. No 46 beat me (partly) to it.

...... self canceling indicators, radio controls on the steering wheel, Sat Nav and airbags please (Bolivain?) :-)

...working cruise control and cigarette lighters in GT5, please?

How about a virtual ignition interlock device for those of us daft enough to need one with our real ticket? :dunce:

^^^^Ok what's with the off topic chatter.

And yea, i admit going as far to say"It would make or break a game is a bit much" But it will set it apart from others.

Or maybe im just a Detail freak.

Make sure they model the "dipstick" too.

Now that's thinking with your dipstick......Jimmy.
