well then what is the calendar there for anyway?

*edit I don't fully understand how time works in the game

Two reasons

1 - to stop GT looking like some lame arcade game that takes place on the same day for the whole length of the game and give a sense of time

2 - The Diary

Also, the used car lots change every 7 days (although a day-of-the-week counter might be more useful).

besides, Japanese don't celebrate Christmas... at least not the same way you and I do.

Well is would be hard for any game company to put in religious holidays like Christmas, although it would be cool, you know that it would cause controversy, but it would be cool if they had special holdiay events, even something like a presidents day special (for US version obviously) and such

Yes, they do, except it's mainly commercial as most Japanese are Buddhist.

Hard? Stupid more like. It'd then become the Real Holiday Driving Simulator lol

Why would it be stupid? There are special racing events all the time, It would be cool to have special events that only come up every now and then, even if it was a different race every "weekend" it would be cool to see something different, and make them limited, so it could only be certian types of cars, or certain years, concepts, make it just like random car club meets, or something like that, it happens in real life, why not in the game?

Well, back in the day, after getting a special demo disk of SegaGT2002 with a special christmas race, I sorta liked it. Of course I would rather keep it secular with GT4.

Question- I know I am probably wrong, but do they have leap days?

wow my thread got popular lol. 1/3 of us(the world) are christian and it's not one of those really exclusive holidays. Presidents Day, that's actually not a bad idea, except the days do fly by in the game so I can see why they dont have holidays. Maybe special weeks would make more sense. Thanks about the weekly used car tip, I didn't know, trying to get a nice muscle car used.

Stupid for the fact there's bound to be people who will make an issue out of it so it'd have to have *every* special holiday in there, then there's bound to be people who dislike other religions or traditions and whatever that want the other holidays out etc etc, because it of the way most countries have multiple religions in their midsts it's not like you can give each game region (eg PAL/NTSC) a different version with different holidays *breathes*.

Now special events not based on particular holidays, that would be easy.

And we would have to race sleds pulled by reindeer and be dressed in Santa suits.
Then we could have a special easter race, be dressed as bunnies and have to find the most easter eggs in 2.675 minutes.

and on new years eve we can all get our licenses revoked for driving drunk.

👎
I hope you mean in game. If you drive drunk they will take away your PS2 for 2 years and not let you play again for 4 years.

I know you are joking but no game should feature drink driving.

Even the image of speed that GT games and driving games in general promote generate issues with road safety do gooders. Please do not give them any more ammunition.

And this is relevant to an old, tired thread... how?

Please don't dredge up old threads unless you're planning to contribute real meaning to them. This thread was about special prizes or events relative to a given game-calendar date. Buying an ordinary, always-available car has nothing to do with it.

tiger woods 2004 had christmas and easter events, as well as many others.......

Vice City does - Tommy has to drive Phil to the hospital after he blows his own arm off, but he's high on Boomshine fumes.

Funnily that's the only thing the Daily Mail (read: that portion of the press that's always shocked and horrified at the corruption of moral decency when someone on TV utters the word "damn" at 7.59pm) didn't pan the game for...
