I noticed that the other day. :D

The curious thing is, according to imdb, they've got Warwick Davis in to play Marvin. He was the dwarf bloke in Willow. Marvin was not a dwarf!

I hope it will be better than the English tv series. I'm also looking forward to Asimovs "I, Robot". Never watched "bicentennial man" though. It's supposed to stink really bad.

Bicentennial Man sucked. Never, ever see it under any circumstances.

I've never read I, Robot. The movie is going to star Will Smith, though. He isn't all that bad. You can see the trailer to I, Robot here

The trailer makes me think hmmm.. It can be good. Or not. Mabye I'm a too big asimov-fan to enjoy that. I'll see it anyway.

Both "I, robot" and "Robot dreams" are excellent novel-collections from him in traditional Asimov-detective-style. Recommended

Man, this thing has been running longer than the lead-in to Dune finally being filmed - and look how that turned out.

Bicentennial Man was genuinely awful - do not see it. You will lie on your deathbed wishing for the time back.

I'm intrigued by a couple of things here:
- the Ford Prefect casting of Mos Def worries me deeply
- the Malkovich casting is interesting. I understand the script is by the sadly late Douglas Adamns, which pleases me greatly. This will be an interesting one.
- dunno about Sam Rockwell as Zaphod. We'll see on that one.

I'm deeply cynical about 'I Robot'. That will get slaughtered - no doubt. Del Spooner?!? The books were about Elijah Bailey, not 'Del Spooner'!!

What happens if they film 'Foundation' and the 'Solaris' series?!? Elijah's at the root of all of them through Daneel Olivaw...

Another Hollywood piece of garbage that avoids the heavy, complex questions raised by the books...

So it's finally been finalised. :D

I've read the entire HitchHikers series and I've got the DvD box set.

I've also been reading Douglas Adams' "Last Chance To See" and "The Salmon Of Doubt". The first being an autobiography/biography of his adventurers with endangered species and the second being a collection of his work and the incomplete novel he was writing at the time of his death.

It is mentioned in one of these books that there was a movie to come but that it had been put on hold so I'm delighted to finally see it happening.

I just hope it doesn't flop.

 I better go rent Bi-man tonght.

You are not entirely correct. Elijah doesn't appear in any of the stories in I, robot. The main character (in some stories) there is Susan Calvin, a "robotpsychologist" or something that worked with development of the three laws. Wonder if she'll be in the movie? Elijah was first introduced in the caves of steel as Daneel also was. Then, as you say, he's there in the presence of Daneel throughout the entire series. I do believe his name comes up though in the last book Foundation and earth in form of a planet legendary named baleyworld after Ben, Elijahs son.

I have to agree somewhat with you. The Asimov spirit will probably be gone in I, robot, the movie.

I.Robot is a fantastic book. I just recently started reading Asimov books. I'm not sure how they will do it though as the book was of short stories. And Will Smith......oh dear.

*edit* I just wached the trailer......omfg what a load of cr@p. It doesn't even tie in with any of the stories. Another great book ruined by Hollywood. I might have to watch it though just to be sure.

Congratulations! I wish I could say that too since he's probably the author I like best.

If you like his style I reccomend you to also check these titles out, they're not in the robot/[edit]foundation series but still masterpieces:

The end of eternity
The gods themselves
Nightfall
Nemesis

/D

Cheers, I'll look into it. I'm currently reading the Foundation trilogy.

The Foundation 3, that's a nice trilogy. If you haven't gotten that far I reccomend you to start over and begin with The caves of steel and then continue through the series to get a real Asimov kick. Knowing who Eto Demerzel is while reading about him is quite cool.

The Empire novels can be skipped if you ask me and also the 9a-b-c-d- in the chronology in the link. (not the solely 9, (prelude to the foundation) it should be read.

Book chronology:

(hope I didn't give too much away with this information.)

I've read the Foundation series and the Empire series. I enjoyed them a bit, but I can't say I ever fell into them. The I, Robot stories were interesting little excercises in logic.

On the whole I really prefer Robert Heinlein for breadth of vision and Larry Niven for detail and logical extrapolation.

I saw a preview for this movie few weeks ago. I didn't even know it was based on a novel & English TV Series, until I just read this thread!

Anyways, it looks really good and I hope to catch it in theaters. You can see a trailer for this movie here:

Awesome trailer! 👍

Edit: Release date for the U.S. is April 29th. :)

I'm scared. The HHGTG series have been some of my favorate books since I was 10, I can't help but think they're going to do bad things with it.
I'm obviously seeing it anyway regardless, but I'm mentally preparing myself for something awful.

I know what you mean. Usually, very few novels are translated into great movies. :guilty:

The previews don't look to bad, I'll be seeing it.

Haha, Mos Def is going to play Ford Prefect.

Mos Def is an underground rap artist. Not the most perfect fit.

Au contrare... he'd be absolutely prefect for the role.... :)

Went to see Hitchhikers... damn good movie.. i encourage all to see if your bit of a sci-fi buff.. especialy if you have read the books :)... and if you haven't read the books read em :)

Just got back from it and I really enjoyed it, thought it followed the book pretty good. If you've never read the book though it's easy to get lost, the girl I took had know idea what was going on. I would definatly see it though, you won't be disappointed.

I saw the movie last night and I was very impressed. I had never read the book before (although I was familiar with lots of the story beforehand), and the plot made perfect sense to me. The movie was well made, the acting was good, and I felt they got the humor just right. Now I want to read the series over the summer!

I thought Mos Def was absolutely spot-on; easily the best performance of the whole movie. I have never liked Sam Rockwell, and he didn't impress me here as Zaphod Beeblebrox either.

The Vogons and their costumes absolutely ROCKED. The mouth and eye movements were completely lifelike. The best I've seen in any movie for a long time; they reminded me of Jabba from Return of the Jedi.

Overall, the movie was pretty good. There were some serious fans in the audience, complete with towels and bathrobes. But I have only read about a third of the book, and now I fear I'll never read them. I'm glad I got the humour, though. Because it would have sucked if I hadn't.

I'm not a hater of Sam Rockwell, but I think he's way overrated. He's one of the most unconvincing actors, right up there with Ben Affleck. He's been in many films I've seen(Green Mile, Charlies Angel, etc.), but only film I ever liked him in was Matchstick Men. "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind", which he starred in, was one of the most dissapointing films I've ever seen.

I'm looking foward to seeing the Hitchhiker's, but not Rockwell. 👎

I'm going with some buddies to see it again tonight and we are going to dress up. I like being the geek and dressing up. I dressed up for the Matrix and for Star Wars, so why not dress up for this one.

I was surprised no one was dressed up last night when I went.
