In 2003, Honda used NA2 NSX, but its engine was placed longitudinally this year. Due to the weight handicap based on its frontal projected area, they once could not keep up with other competitors. However, the engine and aerodynamic improvement allowed them to win two races. This car, which was registered as Takata Dome NSX, won the 5th round, which was held at Fuji Speedway.

Takata: the best airbags! (sarcasm). Good car tho!

Apparently that's why Takata pulled out as the main sponsor of the team after 2008.

To get you a bigger picture, Honda NSX GT500 at 2003 season was 90 kg heavier than GT-R R34 and Supra GT500.

While GT-R R34 & Supra GT500 had minimum weight of 1080kg, NSX GT500 was 1070kg. Not mentioning another adjustments to NSX GT500 to get "balanced" with its rivals. I think 90kg difference explains very much about Honda's struggle at that season.

Honda squad started to be competitive again at second half of the season when top Nissan & Toyota teams already stuffed with success weight handicaps.
