The Honda S2000 is a convertible sports car first shown as a concept car back in 1995, and was released in 1999 to celebrate Honda's 50th Anniversary.

The concept, known as the Honda Sport Study Model (Known as SSM) was the design study for the S2000. It was a front engined, rear wheel drive roadster with a 2.0 Inline 4 engine. It featured a rigid "X-Bone" frame, which Honda claimed would increase vehicle rigidity and collision safety. The car also featured an aluminium body and a 50:50 weight distribution.

In 1999 the Honda S2000 went on sale (with the "AP1" chassis designation). The car was very similar to the SSM concept, using an FR drivetrain and a 2.0 DOHC-VTEC Inline 4. The engine, codenamed "F20C", produced 246 BHP and 220 NM of torque (some markets received slightly less) mated to a 6 speed manual and Torsen LSD.

Features of the S2000 include double wishbone suspension, assisted steering and Bridgestone Potenza S-02 tyres. The compact and lightweight engine, mounted entirely behind the front axle, allow the S2000 to achieve a 50:50 front/rear weight distribution.

Honda offered Berlina Black, New Formula Red, Gran Prix White, Sebring Silver and Silverstone Metallic in the US domestic market.

In 2000, the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) recieved the Type-V edition from 2000, with this model recieving Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGS), a system that changed the steering ratio based on vehicle speed and steering angle, and was the first system of it's kind. Honda also outfitted Type V cars with revised damper units, stabilizers and limited slip differentials to "complement the VGS". Equipped cars came with a special steering wheel and a VGS badge on the rear. This was called the Type V steering/handling package.

The Honda S2000 has featured in every Gran Turismo since Gran Turismo 2, with the AP2 first appearing in Gran Turismo 5 in Premium form.

-> Um, as an ex-S2000 owner...there are some discrepancies on the OP:

1st pic = Euro-spec featured, the VGS system/Type-V was never released in Euro-land.
2nd to 6th pic = USDM-spec featured, and same as above but in North America.

^ The Type-V was a JDM-only exclusive. ;)

Did you ever mess with that really cool 3D car configurator they had on the Japanese Honda S2000 website? There were so many options! We had almost nothing to choose from in North America.

^ I never toyed around with the JDM website, but I am aware that the JDM version had more colors, a navi option, a Type-V, & a Type-S (which is a heavier CR with a standard power top).

When I initially searched for (Honda S2000 Type V 2000) images most of what showed up was either an AP2 or a normal AP1, or the images were smaller than I would've liked. Did a search for the 2001 model and and got some images of the '01 Type V.
